What to expect XMAS-NYE week

So, I had this thread bookmarked and just pulled it up to refresh my memory. We are thinking of calling tomorrow to make ressies for New Years week!!!:banana:We have always gone during low season, well..maybe an early June trip or two so this will be totally different for us.
How was it this year for those of you that spent the holidays with Mickey?

Loved it, again!

We had a blast and it truly is our favorite time of year at WDW. We are planning to go again this year, for the fourth year in a row. This year's trip will be from Dec 27th to Jan 4th.

This year the weather was fantastic, 85 degrees every day.

Stupid question, but when do you call for NYE? On Jan 31st? (for your home resort)

**nevermind, I logged in and see where it says I can make reservations for 12/28

It was the best ever. Weather was very nice-70's the first 1/2 then around 80 the rest. The hours were so long that we had plenty of time to hit all the attractions we wanted as well as sleep in some days (after late nights) and swim most afternoons. One AM we did Safari, EE 2 times, Lion King and Nemo by noon. BWV made it great as usual for location and minimal bus rides. Fantasmic was 3 shows a night, EPCOT Illuminations ending was fantastic and we attended NYE fireworks on Saturday night the 29th-what a nice suprise since we left the 30th.

Couple pics.

DH normally handles the reservations, so I'm learning, but on Jan 1 I can make reservations for Dec 1, is that correct? (at my home resort)

If I want NYE is it Jan 31 that I need to call?

I meant to write Feb 1st. I am sorry about that, I was in a rush and even though my brain said Feb 1, my fingures typed Jan 1st.

We were at MK this past NYE and it was awesome! We finally rode Dumbo for the first time....at midnight no less. We had 360 fireworks!!!!

We were at EPCOT NYE and although the fireworks and other activities for NYE were amazing the crowds were beyond terrible. I've learned not to go to the parks NYE, but stay at our resort.

Here is a photo from NYE at EPCOT:

Yes, 29th, 30th and NYE-they said the were the same each night and they did count down as well. When they did the count down the fireworks displayed the number all the way around MK. I have pretty good video of it but it's a lot to download.

We will be there the week of NYE. When we are there and we want to find out the times of fireworks, like the fact that NYE fireworks are presented more than on just NYE...how, where do we find that information?
This past year, we were there for Halloween, and I called Guest relations and they did tell me about Trick or Treating in DTD, for instance. Is that the best method of getting information? Will the front desk have it on a "walk up" basis? Is the information available on the Disney web site before hand so we can plan? I only knew to ask about the Trick or Treating because it was mentioned on the Disboard...and for my family, that was the single best piece of information that we used in '07!

Bobbi,

We were at SSR for the 07-08 NYE celebration. The resort celebration/fireworks info was included in our check-in paperwork. I learned about the early NYE firework shows at MK, Epcot and DHS for these boards.

We watched the NYE show at the MK on 12/30 from the walkway to Tomorrowland. They were spectacular to say the least.

Subscribing to get as much info about this time frame as possible. We will be there this year Dec. 20-28 at SSR :woohoo:

Thank you...I will read the information very very carefully!:goodvibes

You are already at the right place for to find out. MK does its NYE fireworks on Dec 30 and again 31st, at 11:50 both nights. DHS, Epcot and DTD has the fireworks on NYE.

Just keep coming back to the Disboards for all your travel needs. I am always amazed of all the information I have learned here in these forums. Allears does a great job too, with all of its information for vacation planning.

I already got a studio at SSR for my sister (xmas gift! yeah!) for NYE! I'm tempted to call today to see if there are any 1brs left.

We did NYE for the first time this year. Let me tell you, I TOTALLY underestimated what the crowds would be like. IT was NUTS. I will not be doing that again any time soon. We decided to do a DCL on Jan 3rd for a week instead. We will still be going on Dec 31 for a couple of days but we are staying at SSR this time so that DTD will be very easy to get to. We spent most of the time there anyways. It was in the 30s this year so the cold probably had something to do with it also. I don't like going on vacation to be in cold weather unless I am going to alaska or something. But on a positve note, it was fun to do once.

We also did MK on the 30th and it was busy but nothing like NYE. I don't think I could stand MK on NYE. Epcot was packed to where you couldn't even walk. I can't imagine what MK would be like.
