What to expect/how to plan for Disney Studios visit

DD and I are doing MK and DS on our trip in late August, but I have no idea how to plan for the Studios anymore. Most of this is because we are not Star Wars fans and SO MUCH of DS is Star Wars now. It's not that we didn't like the first release or two, we just haven't seen/followed much of the saga. When I think "Star Wars" I think Luke Skywalker, Darth Vader, Yoda, Lei, Chewy, C3PO, R2D2, Ewoks, Jaba the Hut, etc. Reading the Galaxy's Edge pages, I don't recognize any of the names or what they are talking about. What I've seen from pictures makes me think GE is visually amazing, but are we gonna "get" anything out of this, if we don't know the theme, story lines, etc.? Are there SW movies we should watch over the next week, to get a better idea of what is going on? ALSO... how do we tour GE, what order should we "see" things, does the ride "StarTours" still exist, will MF and RoR make me motion sick (couldn't do StarTOurs, can't do FoP, guessing that these 2 attractions are also simulators). I've read some of the GE threads but honestly, they all seem to be bogged down in specifics- how to get an ADR at Oga's, building lightsabers, etc. Can anyone help me out or point me in the right direction on how to "see" Galaxy's Edge (while still leaving time for other attractions)?

7. That's entirely something only you can decide. Some guests do feel "effects" from SR.

Just back, and while I've seen all the movies, I'm not a dress up Uber fan. I was there with my 8 yr old granddaughter who knows the characters but hasn't seen much of the movies. Galaxys Edge is cool, themeing is great, but not ALL of HS. Star Tours is not in Galaxys Edge, it's story line has been updated to include Kylo Ren and First Order, but still basically the same, it's still fun. Star Tours and Smugglers Run are simulators, if you get motion sick on Star Tours, you won't like Smugglers Run, it's basically a more immersive version of Star Tours, lots of swooping and acceleration while you interact with the console. They are both a lot of fun. And of course Rise of the Rebellion is great, I don't think you need to know anything about SW to enjoy.

We did ROR, and Smugglers Run, ( and Star Tours earlier in the day) ooh2d and awed at the cool spaceships, waved at Chewbacca!
We didn't build droids or lightsabers or go to Ogas(since we were avoiding crowded indoor dining) Then we spent most of our time in other areas, then parkhopped later in the day elsewhere.

Bottom line if you don't know Star Wars, it's still a cool place to visit.

We are not big Star Wars fans but did enjoy Galaxy's Edge. The theming is immersive and very complete, which I can appreciate regardless of topic. We don't geek out on the rides, but still find them fun and easy to follow. We browsed through the shops but didn't need to spend hours geeking out over every detail or obsess over getting a spot to build a droid or lightsaber (or carry them around the park). We had 2 DHS days and did not get a Rise boarding group the first day. It honestly didn't bother us much and we didn't even really go into Galaxy's Edge that day and did other parts of the park which was just as enjoyable. I did try again our second day and did get a boarding group, but I wasn't overly stressed about it. I think you will enjoy it and have fun regardless.

I can't ride Star Tours. I can ride FoP, but I do feel a bit off during and immediately afterward. MFSR was ok if I was a gunner or engineer and resisted the urge to look away from my own area. I had no issues on ROTR and have ridden 3 times
I saw all of the old movies, but I've never been a fan. However, I love GE! The immersion is fun and I've played along, even if I have no idea why I'm doing whatever I'm doing. Look for the common phrase guide on the GE thread- it's very helpful.

I have never watched Song of the South but enjoy Splash Mountain. It’s a visit to an alien planet with obvious good guys at war with obvious bad guys—not hard to follow even if you haven’t seen a single star wars movie.

Smugglers run is a simulator, but it is not just a movie on a screen. It is somewhat more like a flight simulator, meaning your input (as the pilots) does have an impact on what is being projected.

Actually a lot of the rides are now somewhat or completely screens. Some people love that, some people hate it. All a matter of personal preference.

HS does not have many rides, but hopefully some of the shows will be reopening (if they have not done so already).

Galaxy’s Edge is set in the sequels era, so watching Star Wars episodes 7-9 would give you the backstory you need to fully appreciate things like RotR.

With that said, there are also a lot of characters that are original to Galaxy’s Edge. Read the novel Black Spire by Delilah Dawson to get the in-universe history of Galaxy’s Edge.

I wouldn't even say that so much of HS is SW. Its one land and one other ride. There is still so much else at that park.
