What to expect for DL's 60th anniversary in 2015 (Starting May 22)

I just saw that a Cast Member (who is also a member of MiceChat) reported that the new CM name tags for the 60th anniversary are ugly (another CM or two confirmed it), but the mini-cupcakes and diamond dust slushies are good!

Maybe they made the name tags to match Mickey & Minnie's new costumes? :rotfl2:

:rotfl2: True!

It seems that several CMs in that same thread on MiceChat have now confirmed the ugly, cheap look of the CM name tags. Not that I want the CMs to be shortchanged when they work so hard to make us all happy at DLR, but I certainly hope Disney doesn't give us cheap, ugly entertainment for this 60th anniversary! They've got the money -- they need to start using it!

I keep thinking that Mickey & Minnie will have other new outfits too. The outfits they are wearing in the Diamond Anniversary artwork might be something that they wear during Paint the Night, or at a nighttime meet and greet or something. Those outfits shown in the Parks Blog can't be it... can they?

You keep saying that Sherry. I need all the reassurance on that I can get. Because those really were ugly! I'm having flashbacks to all those years I complained about Mickey and Minnie's Christmas attire at MVMCP. They need to just give up and consult me next time they want a change of clothes. :)

So I went to read this news on the nametags over on the other board. Wow. Have I mentioned before how much I appreciate the general kindness we see on this board?

I'm still holding out hope on the costumes, too. The more I think about it, the more the red is really getting to me. How does red have anything to do with a diamond anniversary?

While I found the new outfits to be quite jarring initially because of my expectations, I'm kinda coming around. (Well, I'm talking myself into liking them at least lol). When I started thinking about why Disney designed (at least that particular outfit) the way they did I remembered that Minnie and wearing red are hand in hand, they love to dress Minnie in red. So, it stands to reason if our fictional mouse goes to an important party she goes all out with her favorite color! That's the theory I'm gonna go with to enjoy the new outfits :)

I don't think the new outfits are ugly. I just don't understand why they don't match the concept art and all of the merch.

Did anyone notice that pictures have now been posted in that same MiceChat thread about the "ugly" new CM name tags for the Diamond Anniversary? On page 3 of that thread is where the pictures can be found (in 3 separate posts on the page, and one is a great close-up shot). I don't want to link their thread, but I think it should be easy to find in their Disneyland forum.

My thoughts? I think that because I had read the negative critiques from the CMs before I saw the photos, I had an image in my mind of just how "ugly" the tags might be. I don't know if they look better or worse in the photos than they do in person, but judging by the photos.... honestly, they are nowhere near as bad as what I was envisioning, and they may look great when shining in the sun. I can see where one might get a 'school art project' vibe from them, but I don't think they are awful. I think they're appropriate and fitting.

Let's face it -- these name tags are more shimmery and sparkly than the new outfits that Mickey and Minnie will be wearing!

What do you all think?

Sherry, that's sort of just what I would have expected. I haven't read to see what the issue is, but I wouldn't have given that a second though.

And... the crowds just got even bigger in the week leading up to the kickoff of the 60th:

By the way, I will point out that back in 2013, when people were distressed over The View taping at Disneyland for a week in November, some frustrated folks thought that it would be an annual occurrence, and that there would be a taping in November every year. I said that I highly doubted that The View or any other show would tape at DLR every year, let alone in the same month of every year, but that the year of the 60th anniversary was probably likely to see a taping or two. And here it is!

The View had its time at DLR in 2013 -- and they can hardly figure out who is sitting in on their panel from week to week -- so now it's time for the other big ABC daytime talk show to step up. LIVE has gone to Hawaii a lot, and I think they have been to WDW more than once in the last few years. It's time to come to DLR again. I can't remember when LIVE was last at DLR, but it's been a while -- and this is as good a time as any. But the crowds will come out too!

Boo on the taping of LIVE. That's going to add crowds to a week that is already full of early closings. The early closings don't bother me too much, since the parks also open early, but now we're adding a weeks worth of taping. I hope it's not as intrusive as the AFV looked in the pictures. It took up the whole area in front of the castle.

Too many people, people. Sigh....ugh! :(

I tried to find the pics over on the other place but wow it is so hard to navigate and the posts are full of so much hate. Thank goodness Dis boards are nothing like them.

It says that the show will AIR May 18-22, that doesn't mean that is when they are taping. In fact, if you go to the LIVE website, the tickets to attend the taping are for May 17 (2 tapings), May 18 (2 tapings) and May 19 (1 taping). So, it looks like they should be wrapped up before the 22nd. I figured that would be the case since it looks like there will be media events on May 20/21 when DCA/DL will close at 6pm. They won't want ugly big screens or stages for the LIVE taping up for that. I'm sure it will all be taken down in time for the 24 hour party.

I'm kinda glad I switched my trip from May 17/18 to the 24 hour party now. I don't think I would enjoy being there while they are taping.

Yes, the taping is not taking place on May 20-22 (and there would definitely have to be at least one media day or "sneak preview day" before 5/22), but as I mentioned in my post above, (I think) the taping will add to the crowds in the week leading up to the kickoff on May 22. People who may not have been planning to go to DLR otherwise, but who are fans of LIVE, will show up for the taping and maybe stay an extra day or two to experience all the fun. The crowds were definitely said to have picked up around The View's taping back in November 2013. LIVE is a popular show.

This means there should be some famous faces wandering around the GCH that week -- I know that some View folks were spotted there in 11/13!

That's true, Sherry, it will bring in the crowds on those taping days. Perhaps they were counting on low crowds on those days leading up to the 22nd so figured they would be good times for tapings. I hope it's not too bad for everyone going on those days!

I think that's exactly what happens. Whoever coordinates Disneyland Resort's schedules behind the scenes probably looks at the week in question or month in question and tries to figure out which dates or weeks will be the least crowded of an already fairly crowded time frame, and then they designate those dates as being the ones to add extra things to, such as TV tapings. I think that in 11/2013, when The View had their week of shows, it was handled more or less the same way. Any later in November and it would have been too close to early Thanksgiving crowds. And after Thanksgiving the holiday season is pretty much in warp speed mode and the crowds pick up steadily. So the lesser of however many evils was to have the show tape in that specific week of November -- after the holiday season has begun, but before Thanksgiving.

So now it's 'tape during the week of the 60th kickoff to capitalize on that excitement, but not in the actual couple of days leading up it'! Lol.

I just need to know if anyone sees Mariah Carey wandering around the GCH with an entourage.
