What to do with points we can't use?

So my DH is deploying in the spring--this is sudden since he was in a non-deployable position, but because of the shortages that's no more.

Anyway, we have banked points from last year (our first year as DVC members). I understand those can't be transferred since we already banked them. We had every intention of going on a vacation again this summer. I could take the kids and go by myself and am considering that option.

I've read a lot of the threads about transferring/renting/etc...and it makes me nervous.

Anyone have any advice for a newbie?

Thanks!

Depending on your use year, if you can't use the banked points could you interest a friend or relative in using them and paying you for the reservation instead? That probably would be easier than trying to rent them outright.

Take your kids and make some special memories. Take lots of pictures and send them to your husband. I'm sure he would love to see them!!

I agree. If your kids are little, ask a close friend or relative to go along with you. It is amazing how willing people are to do this for a free room at Disney.

I am so sorry you are in this position. God Bless your family and families like yours! How old are your children? Would it be to hard on you to take them? With Dad gone, they may need uplifting. My Dad was in Vietnam twice. I know how hard it is to be a Military family. Is there still pleanty of time in your use year to make a reservation?

We have until next fall but with him leaving in March, who knows when he'll be able to come home for his 2 weeks of R&R. And with my kids being in school, it's too much to take them out of school for a week--although I'm sure they wouldn't mind! ;-) I'm thinking maybe inviting a friend of mine and her little ones and we'll both go with our kids in the summer. My two are 14 and 7. Hers are 5 and almost 2. That might be kind of fun...

Thanks for all the support and advice everyone!
