We should arrive at ASMu via DME around 10:30AM. Want to check in, get tickets and head to park. I fully expect the room not to be ready as we are arriving on 3/29 and I expect it to be busy.

Problem is DH instists on carrying his laptop on the plane. I know DME will take care of our luggage, but what do we do with the carry-on stuff, especially the "all important laptop" when we head to the park?:confused3 :confused3 :confused3

You can check your carry on stuff with your luggage at bell/luggage services. They will take care of all this for you until your room is ready.

Disney resorts are great about situations like this. As it happened, our room was ready when we checked in last trip, but when I called with the expectation that it wouldn't be, the BC front desk assured me that they could put the laptop in their safe if I wasn't comfortable leaving it with bell services.

Colleen27, I was going to report the same thing! I'm sure our room won't be ready when we check in and I don't want to carry around both my laptop and my camera. I asked Concierge and they assured me that it could be stored in a safe until we returned from a park and checked into our room. Makes me feel much better than leaving it with luggage going in and out of a busy store room!

Great question! I just bought a laptop recently and will be bringing it along and was wondering the same! Thanks for the imput!

If you travel with a laptop anywhere (including WDW) please protect your investment (or your company's data) by investing in a cable lock. It is a small price to pay to prevent the potential theft of your laptop from your room. If your laptop is stolen from your room you will probably have no recourse with the resort as you shouldn't leave valuables in your room anyway.

And just an FYI. You can't check a laptop as part of your luggage. You have to carry it on.

I have never heard this before and I do a lot of business travelling - maybe this is a US rule? I travel a lot internationally but not through the States - I've checked my laptop before - but not in my laptop bag as I don't think it's protected enough, I pack my laptop bag inside a suitcase. Maybe it's illegal everywhere and I didn't know!

Would a laptop fit in the room safe?

I just wanted to add our experience, and preface it by saying that I am sure it is not the norm, but it obviously can happen and has changed how we do things.

This past spring we did a split stay CR/BWV. When we checked into the Contemporary, they asked if we had a laptop, we said yes, and they put it in their special room for computers and valuables. Everything went fine and it came to the room with the rest of our luggage once our room was ready. When we went to have our luggage transfered to BWV, we again told them about the laptop bag so it would be stored in the appropriate location until it was time for them to do their transfers (we checked out early morning, and they do transfers early afternoon). We never saw that bag again. In addition to the laptop, we had camera equipment, our keys to our minivan that was parked at an airport 3 hours from our home, and several other items, adding up to around $2500. We will never leave anything of value with bell services again. Nearly every afternoon that week was spent trying to track down that bag, dealing with WDW security and filing police reports and claims, and trying to figure out how we would get home once we reached the airport. It was all a huge hassle, and certainly put a damper on our vacation.

Just wanted to give you a heads up. Like I said, I'm sure that what happened to us doesn't happen often, but it does happen, despite how many times the manager at the BWV told us it doesn't.

At SSR a 14 or 15" laptop will fit in the room safe, mine did just fine in August. I now have a 17" so I don't know if it will or not. I always carry a cable lock though.

Would a laptop fit in the room safe?

I know we fit two (2) 15.4" laptops in the safe at the Polynesian. A 17" *might* just barely fit.

And definitely, definitely, DEFINITELY get a cable lock for your laptop. :thumbsup2

Does anyone keep their digital camera's in their safe? I'm thinking of getting a D-SLR and probably won't carry it with me to the parks EVERY day. I'm just not at ALL sure it will fit in the safe.

I'm thinking of a Nikon D-80. I think if I take the lens off before putting it in, it should fit.

Thoughts?

We checked ours in with the front desk until the room was ready and it did fit in our safe. We actually had 2 one 12 inch and one 15 inch in the safe together.

It's not illegal, it's just that the airline does not have any responsibility for it.

I was at SSR and, my laptop fit (MacBook). I know in my room it was a tall skinny safe but, I did not try and fit my DSL in there, it might be very tight. I think when I go later this month I will rent a locker at the parks and just store it in there for when I am not carrying it.

OOoh good idea.. If it doesn't fit in the room safe, that's what I'll do.

It's only 7cm front to back if the lens is removed. So I'm thinking it MIGHT fit in the safe.

Might.

And many employers around the world strictly prohibit their employees from doing this with company property.
