I'm really torn on what to do with my July reservation in the setting of COVID-19 and I'm looking for advice. We are already losing point from an April reservation made with June UY 2019 points. Unfortunately our banking deadline had passed before COVID-19 was on the radar and it is looking like the resorts will still be closed. DVC has not given an option for late banking so these points are just lost. I do not want to make the same mistake again.
We have a late July reservation made from a contract with a Sept UY so banking deadline is April 30. 2 of the points are from 2018 so cannot be banked but the other 30-something points could be banked if we cancel the reservation now. We really have 2 options.
1. Cancel the reservation before April 30th and bank the points we can and just know we will lose the 2 points from 2018. We will also be giving up the opportunity to attend a moonlight magic event during these dates.
2. Keep the reservation and run the risk of losing all the points if the resorts do not open before the dates. I'm a front line medical worker so there is also the chance that I won't be able to take time off if our area is under "surg" even if Disney has opted to reopen the parks.
I'm conflicted because I think it's unlikely things will be completely back to "normal" within the next year but I also think the summer may be the best chance to travel between surges and our family could really use a break. I wish DVC would give us some flexibility over banking deadlines so I could hold the reservation a little longer to see what happens.
So how are you all handling your summer reservations? Any advice from the experts?
