What to do with Grandma? (best resort question, po4)

Since you have a new baby which means life can be unpredictable I would not recommend renting points from a DVC member. Yes it can save you lots of money but there is risk involved in that it is a private transaction between 2 people, problems, Disney will not help with. Plus your stay includes a Fri and Sat and no bargain there when renting. Cancellations are very seldom if ever allowed.

If you get 2 rooms they will not guarantee they will be connected even though the CM booking the room will say they will.

Only guarantee on connecting rooms when there is only one adult in the group.

I think for the money the Fort Wilderness Cabins are your best bet.

If you decided to rent a reservation from a DVC member and if a two bedroom at OKW (lowest points required) was available, it would take 130 points for the three nights. So you are looking at anywhere from $1300 to $1820 for the three nights in a two bedroom villa at OKW. If OKW wasn't your cup of tea, and you wanted something else (if it were available), you'd be looking at a bunch more since more points would be needed.

Thanks, folks, but perhaps I should provide a few clarifications: yes, Sept. 2007; it's a last-minute kind of thing. We normally go to WDW about 3X per year, but we just had a new baby, so we haven't been in a while. DH saw a good Ding! and grabbed it, thus the short notice. I said tentative because we may have to cancel and reschedule if we can't find an acceptable room situation at this late date.

I know what we're getting into by taking MIL. (Note that the trip is short, only 3 nights.) The primary reason for staying onsite (besides the beauty of the resorts) is the buses; if MIL tires while the rest of us want to stay out, she could go back to the room without disrupting the whole park day. She is the only grandparent my kids have, and she's not a traveler by nature; but DS has been trying to talk her into letting him show her WDW pretty much since he could talk, and it looks like he finally may be getting his one and only chance. (Yes, she could become a convert, but I rather doubt it.) The thing about the heat/humidity is really not the big deal she remembers it being; it's just as hot/humid in the summertime where we live.

We're WDW veterans, and we've been to about half the resorts over the years, but we've never needed separate bedrooms before, so that part of it is the new experience part. I'm a bit concerned about the possibility of getting widely separated rooms. (Connecting rooms are not necessary, but I'd at least like them to be in the same general vicinity.)

You are able to go to Disney very frequently. Lucky, lucky you!!! Here's another option, since you usually have ample opportunity to do Disney as you enjoy it, why not opt to do this trip in favor of Gram? What about one of the nice suite hotels close-by? That might allow much needed space, while not sending the cost sky-high. Those three nights may mean so much for your kids and Gram. It sounds like it would mean a lot to DH, as well. Just a thought.

After hearing the updates, I would suggest Swan and Dolphin if you can get a discount (does Grandma have AARP or does anyone have AAA or is a teacher or gov't worker?) The beds are the best and she'd definitely have a great night's sleep! If not, my second choice would be FW cabins. Lots of luck! Please let us know whatever you decide.

Travelocity is showing some really good rates for the timeframe you speak of!
$103 a night for POFQ, CSR,POR,and CBR!
The Dolphin is listed at 199 a night.
Good luck!

Disney's policy is to give connecting rooms to families with kids. We have 4 kids so we often have to get 2 rooms and they've reassured us each time that we would get them when we made the reservation, and they've never been wrong yet.
