What to do with five banked points?

I have five banked points that I cannot use before they expire at the end of May. Five points are not enough for a one-night reservation anywhere, nor can they be transferred because they are banked. Can less than one night's points be rented or used in any other fashion?

I would hate to see the poor things wither away, lonely and unwanted

Thanks!

Peter

Nothing you can do with just those by themselves. You can't supplement money for additional points to get a night's stay.....

BUT....

What you could do is rent additional points from someone to add up to enough for a night's stay somewhere.

Rent 55 points (going price is about $10, so $550), and you could have 5 nights in a Studio at Hilton Head (60 points)

Rent 60 points and you could have 5 nights at Saratoga Sprints in a Studio (65 points)

I will take those 5 lonely points. I just purchased 150 last week and need 246 for our trip in May!

And after your points get hitched they can have a little one - my 2 points that are also banked, can't be used by me, can't be transfered - I even tried to give them away but I am stuck with them. I wonder how many other offspring your union will have.

Anyone with additions to this family?

Maybe I'll plan a big funeral for May 31, and lay them to rest with appropriate honors.

No flowers please. Donations to the DIS Rent/Trade Board for saving almost all of my points from the same horrible fate.

this might take some work, but maybe if there is enough people who have a few extra points left over, they could transfer to one person, have them use them to book a mini vacation and donate it to a worthy charity to raffle off(ie.,children hospitals, amer. cancer society, etc.) or maybe give it to the Make a Wish Foundation for a child and family who would love to go to Disney but medical expenses prohibit them from going. You get the room for them, I'm sure Make a Wish have the other expenses donated by others for park passes and transfers and such. It would be great to see a kid happy who has things very rough every day. Just a thought and it would also be a tax deduction for the charity contribution. Base it on what the points are worth on you tax forms.

Give kids the World is a charity that operates out of the WDW area.

They will take donated reservations but they will not likely use them for visits by sick children. They have their own system for that. What they will do is use them for employee or volunteer rewards.

My 5 points are not transferable or bankable. 4 are holding points and 1 borrowed.

Ive been pulling by hair out trying to figure out what I can do with them. I refuse to give up on my babies!! They deserve as much magic as their brothers and sisters had! :rotfl:

Can I still donate these to GKTW?

Borrow a few and make a one night ressie for someone. The sole night could be linked to another owners exsiting resservation.

The discussions on what do with soon-to-expire leftover points interests me. We are considering a purchase at SSR but this topic has been a concern of mine all along...I call it "Point Management" and I see it to be challenging and maybe even stressful.

If we do decide to buy, does anyone have advice on how to manage points to assure that you will not loose any?

What are the "rules" of baking, transfering, borrowing and expiration in a nutshell?

Thanks!! :surfweb:

I had 5 points that would expire in soon, previously. I found a DVCer that rents out quite a bit. He had me make a ressie with the 5 and 7 of my next use year. He linked it to one of his rented ressies. He paid me a small amount for the banked points and a little better amount for the other 7 points. I was happy I didn't "waste" 5 points. I know, it sounds dumb but I HATE to waste stuff!!!! I am now trying to stay more ahead of the game so i don't wait so long with the points and try to use them more so before banking and if I do bank, use them before the end of my use year gets near. Time just got away from me then....

I am confused why 1) the extra points are not transferable 2) you cannot supplement with money.

This is one example of the advantages of always being in a borrowed state. Never having to worry about left over points.

In my case, the five points were banked from the previous Use Year, and banked points cannot be transferred.

I hear ya on the points... I have four lonely 'use-or-lose' points that expire as of March 1...

I was lucky enough to get a last-minute reservation for the 25th through the 28th but still had 4 little points remaining...

this reminds me ofthe superman movie with richard pryor when he banked all the spare money from pepoles checks. There must be someone in MS doin the same and staying at disney all year :rotfl:

Seems to me if you just use your banked points first then tap into your current UY you should not have banked points left with no UY points to use them with. anytime I've had banked points they have been applied to my resie without my asking. Maybe I've been lucky and always get an experienced MS. Seems like a lot of you have one or two points so maybe there is more to it than I realize.. :confused3
