All the children i know play video games and seem to have no interest in board games. I don't have many, and all are like new (played only once or twice).

I'd list them on Craigslist.

I love board games. I wish shipping weren't so high.

I take you are looking for a place to donate them (not ways to encourage playing them)? Good places to try:

Schools (especially if they have an in-house afterschool care program)

Other places with after school child care (YMCA, rec. center)

Local Library

Donate them to a women's shelter or a Children's Hospital. When dd was hospitalized, we were grateful for the games people donated-you can only watch so much tv.

!!! Definitely donate them to your local school classrooms for indoor recess or free time!!! They will be loved and put to great use that way!:teacher:

sell them on craigslist/garage sale or give them to your local school.

That's true. Teachers have to buy their own and there are many teachers just starting out - a lot of classrooms have very little for indoor recess.

Another idea is your local department of family/children services. They can really use them in their visitation rooms for children who have been taken into foster care.

They will truly be appreciated more than you know.

Thank you everyone. Donating to the hospital or school is a great idea, I didn't really want to sell them.

In addition to the places already mentioned, I wanted to add one more. You can donate them to a nursing home/retirement home.

If they are the classics like Monopoly or Life, Clue, keep them the kids come back around. When they hit teens like 15- 16 ish my DD and her friends went thru a phase where they played board games. Video games get hard with a big group so some can play but the others need to do something and they don't have money to go to the movies or enough of them can't drive to take everyone, and they are looking for something to fill Saturday evening or Sunday afternoon, or lots of days in the Summer. heck they even played some of the "kid" games like Hungry Hungry Hippoes and laughed themselves silly!

Keep em...you never know when there will be a power outage and video games would not available. At least it would give them something to do for a while. :thumbsup2

We donated ours (that we no longer needed) to the afterschool program at our elementary school.

Must keep in case of Zombie Apocalyspe but then again I could not part with my board games. ;)

I figured just MAYBE I get get some grandchildren and force them to play.:lmao:

Assuming they have all the pieces.

Places that would gladly accept them include: schools, children's hospitals, senior centers. I have accepted many a game on behalf of the Ronald McDonald House when volunteering at the front desk.

Personally, I would pick a children's or elder charity and make a few phone calls.

Something I've always wanted to do, but just haven't, is use board game boards to make shelves for a game/play/family room. I saw it done on a home show and it was extremely simple. Just use those wall brackets and screw the board onto them, through the bracket holes, and into the wall. So, if it were a board that folded in half, half would be up along the wall (hiding the bracket) and half would be the shelf that could hold things (also hiding the bracket).

Try to have a game night. I don't know how old your kids are, but DS loves when we sit down and play. (not as much as we should) But we played a lot over Xmas break. DD even played too. She took some games to her Boyfriend's house, and her and her friends played. If there is no interest...then donate.

Donate them to me! I love board games! :thumbsup2

OK, just kidding. Seriously, I'd like to add just one more...a residential mental health facility. A lot of games are really therapeutic, and others just give residents something to do during the endless hours of sitting around.
