My DH just got a greek tortoise and the pet store said he eats 3 crickets a day. All of the research I have done says no protien. So I am stuck with (and feeding) a boat load of crickets. We are in northern PA and have a ton of snow at the moment, so I cant just set them free outside. I know they were meant to be food for "Mitch", but I feel bad about just letting them die. Any ideas??

Roast them and then dip them in chocolate? They were meant for food,no sense in letting them go to waste

ETA whenever I had a ton of crickets for our geckos alot of them died pretty quickly. I'd just keep them in their habitat and let nature take its course, it won't be long.

:lmao: I was just gonna suggest the same thing - if you're gutsy enough, roast them up and eat em'! I've heard they are really good...I'm just gonna trust what I'm told and take their word for it though.

I've actually had chocolate covered crickets...small roadside (if you can call the path that) market in Isla Mujeres two years ago on a golf cart pub crawl after many, many Sols:rotfl2:

But, that gives me an idea. My indoor/outdoor cat is driving me batty because he is so bored with no prey (the ground has been snow-covered for a couple of weeks and although he tries, he just can't find anything, lol). Maybe I should invest in some live crickets for him to hunt while I work. Would there be a downfall to this?:rotfl:

My husband got a tiny 5 gallon aquarium to keep them in. After a few escapees made it upstairs into my office over the years he just puts the whole bag of crickets into the chameleon cage at once and lets the little guy eat as he wants lol.

If you put them in an aquarium make sure they have cricket food though, or they'll die. Annoying.... I know.

Downfall? As long as you don't mind the sound of crickets chirping all night if your cat does NOT catch it!:listen:

Call up the high school they may have something that eats them, or you could put them on Craigs list for someone to come get them if you don't want to take them to the pet store.

We did this too when we had geckos. They had a warming rock and calcium powder. What the heck is wrong with this picture?:confused3 :rotfl2:

My husband had the nerve to ask if he could get a giant plastic storage tub and breed cockroaches. :scared1:

I haven't complained about the crickets since!

If I bought them from them because they told me to do so to feed a pet that wouldn't eat them - they had better take them back. :upsidedow

If you have a screen porch, that would be a great place for kitty and the cricket! My kitty used to LOVE cave crickets, he'd eat them and leave the legs under my chair in the kitchen.

Organize them into a musical choir and introduce their unique talent to the United States on America's Got Talent.
