What to do when a "best friend" breaks?

My DD6 was given a American Girl type doll when she was 3, called "tollytots"
She LOVES her. She even went to WDW with us. I've made clothes for her to match DDs. Cheerleader is her best friend.
Bringing her in from the car today, her leg came off. It is not going back on...the pin came off.
Now, DD gets "attatched" to things in weird ways. She remembers a stuffed cat she left in a shopping cart when she was 3...
So I know this is going to be bad. I already looked on ebay and can't find one!

I found a website here. They do show some dolls, so I think it is probably the same company. Maybe they will be able to help you out. Good Luck.

Doesn't American Girl have a doll hospital? I know they did when DD was into them. If so, you can explain the hospital to her and send the doll off to be repaired.

I've chased a stolen Stitch stuffed animal through a mall for DS, so I feel your pain. Hope you're able to get the doll fixed!

ETA: Sorry...Read to fast initially and didn't compute that the doll wasn't actually an American Girl. I hope you're able to find a replacement.

I don't know how old your DD is but when my DD12 was only 4 her beloved Madame Alexander Doll developed a "lazy eye." DD had been taking this doll everywhere and sleeping with her every night for 2 years. She cried over the eye so we explained that "Vicky" was going to have to visit the doll hospital for a few weeks and DD would have to be very big and cuddle a different doll during this time. DD missed her mightily but it all worked out and "Vicky" returned as good as knew.

My advice- send her to the AG Doll Hospital.

As a kid I was very attached to my toys in a weird way. I had the Sunshine family - a family of 4 barbie sized dolls and I loved them so much as they perfectly represented my real life family. Well through play one of the mom's legs broke, and the eyes of the dad fell out. I didn't care as a kid, and played happily with them that way. When my mom noticed that the toys were broken she wanted to throw them out and I had a fit saying 'you can't just throw someone away because they're handicapped!'. I guess she took that as a compliment to her parenting skills as the dolls stayed.

I would ask your DD what she'd like to do. If she wants to send her to a hospital, or if she's ok with the doll the way it is.

Oh wanted to add it's not a 'able vs. differently abled' thing. Just that things that might bother an adult in regards to a toy may not bother a kid.

Try to find a doll hospital close to where you live. I have never heard of Am. Girl fixing anything other than "American Girl Dolls", and they charge an arm and a leg. If you have no luck with that, I'd try advertising for someone who fixes very loved dolls; there are lots of talented people out there who may be able to help.
