What to do, what to do on our day in port in Jamaica?

Is there a good, cheap option for catching a cab to a beach to chill in lieu of a big ol' organized excursion? Would like to hang out on the island, but avoid the tourist traps. We did the 'bobsledding' and 'ziplining' experience last time here. It was fun...but been there, done that. What might you recommend....."on the cheap"....!? :) (Hubby is pushing for hanging by the pool on the ship for the day, which is an option, but I'd like to explore a LITTLE.... :) Thanks in advance!

Wasting away in Margaritaville is not a bad pastime...there are two in Montego Bay. Being huge parrotheads, we just have to stop by Jimmy's places when in port. Good luck!!

In Falmouth there is the the Jimmy Buffet right there in the secure area that allows day guests to come use their facilities. Also, while we did not go, Red Stripe beach is really close as is half moon bay. While we did not go to any of those three places on our visit, it might be suitable. I would also consider if you use a taxi to some of these locations seeing if there are taxis readily available for your return trip, and if not, ask the driver to return at a predetermined time.

Just did a food tour with Jamaica Culinary Tours last month and it was outstanding! 6 stops for food and history along the way. Lasted about 3 hours then we headed back to the ship.

I did the food tour as well and really enjoyed it. You learn about the history of various sites and get to taste the local foods. It’s a family friendly tour. The tour guides were funny and kept us safe as we walked along the streets.

Who did you book through? This would be right up my oldest "foodie" daughter's alley.

We are staying on the ship. We've done everything in Jamaica that we want and don't want an hour long bus ride each way to anything. We might hit Margaritaville at the port though. Jamaica is great though! And everyone should get off the boat. So that it's not crowded for us:)

Margaritaville at the port is very nice!!! We were there first week of February.
