So we have a whole slew of old, but working tube TV's. Any thoughts on what to do with them? They are taking up a ton of space in our basement right now. I'm wondering if I hold onto them until spring if there is even a remote chance they will sell at a rummage sale.

Any ideas?

TIA:)

PS - my husband just asked me to add that we are trying to figure out what to do with a couple of old digital cameras and a 5-year old video camera (I'm a little embarassed by how much we have accumulated over the years!).

Try selling one or two of the better ones on craigslist? Donate to a local vocational school? Donate to any 'in need' agency? Find out when your community allows you to leave them with the trash or take them to the dump? Make "something" out of them - maybe huge picture frames, and sell those?

Donate them to a thrift store, such as Goodwill, Catholic Charities or Salvation Army . . . you will get a tax deduction and they will get your items to sell to fund their programs.

We recycled two working and one non-working tube sets back in the fall. Cost us five dollars each and was worth every penny to get them out of our garage.

Ditto Freecycle, one of the best ideas ever. Help someone who needs it, spare yourself having to lug it to Goodwill, keep it out of recycling.

Donate to a woman's shelter for their new homes/apartments, many leave their situation w/ just the bare essentials.

I love the idea of donating the items but if you are looking for a little money in return Best Buy has a Trade-in-Center. You can probalby trade in the cameras and video camera. You just go to their website and click the link all they way at the bottom of the page. They will ask you for info regarding what you want to trade in and give you an estimate of how much they will give you in the form of a Best Buy gift card. I recently traded in a 8 year old video camera and got $44. :)

A large used tv was dropped off at DH's fire house on Christmas Day. They were ecstatic! They had all been huddled around a 27" for years. The new one went in the "day room" and the old one went to the bunk room.

I like the idea of dropping some of my stuff off at a women's shelter!:goodvibes

Goodwill around my neck of the woods doesn't accept Tube TV's anymore.

I think Best Buy has a recycle program for TV's 32" or under. You can pay Best buy $10 for them to take your TV, and then they give you a $10 GC.

Best Buy's info is here.

Good luck!

Last Fall, we sat one at the end of our driveway and someone picked it up within an hour.

You would def sell these at a yard sale..that's where I got our tv..it's an old tube, but had a huge screen...we love it, and it's not something I could have ever paid full price for. I think I paid $15 for it. Donating to Goodwill is also always a good thing, or a woman's shelter, as a PP mentioned :)

I sold mine for $10 at a garage sale. You would better off taking a tax deduction by donating them!
