We will be on that amazing ship (the Magic) in less than 2 weeks. We are going on the 7 day western cruise and will be stopping at Costa Maya instead of Grand Cayman. Any suggestions on what to do or see, while there, would be appreciated.

Howard

Looks as though we'll be on the same cruise. I'm sure you'll find helpful information on Costa Maya on these boards.

Enjoy the Royal Suite :cool2: and have the best vacation ever!

Hi Howard,

If you go to cruisecritic.com and under the message boards there is a ports of call section. There is a lot of information about beaches and such.

I think we are going to take a taxi to Majuhaul beach or Tequilla beach and let the kids snorkel. They were really bummed about Grand Cayman and swimming with the stingrays, and they want to snorkel. Don't know how the snorkeling is at Costa Maya, but the other excursions don't look to appealing. I know they are not going to be interested in the ruins.

Did you sign up for the Key West excursion thru Cheryl?

See You Soon

I have been trying to book a snorkeling excursion directly with the two vendors that I can find. Both will not take my reservation. One states that the Magic will not be stopping in Costa Maya (we are on the December 4th Magic) and the other one only deals directly with the cruise lines. We cannot book our snorkeling on DCL because our children are under 10.

Please post back after your trip to tell us what you did. Have a great time!!!

We did the DCL excursion to Chaccoben (sp?) ruins 2 weeks ago tomorrow (sigh). It was very enjoyable - you take an approx. 1 hour air-conditioned bus ride each way, and then tour the ruins set in a jungle. We had a very informative tour guide and liked it a lot, although it was very humid there!

There were a few other excursions offered in Costa Maya - I can scan in my navigator if it will help anyone. We looked around the port a little bit, but decided to go back to the ship to swim instead of getting in the salt-water pools (they looked like fun though!).

hi maryann,
we are also upset about not going to G.C. and the stingray excursion. I'm not going on the tram ride in key west I think we are just going to walk around. Looking forward to seeing you again.
regards,
renee

no need to pay for anything on Costa Maya, we were on the 8-28-04 cruise and can honestly say, just getting off at the port and wearing your bathing suit is all you will need. when you get off and walk to the nearest port they havea salt water pool with pool side bars and shopping. We have three small sized kids ( under 10 ) and loved it.! We didn't pay for an excursion, ate at the pool sode bars and were able to watch all of our kids. The pool never exceded 3 ft. What fun! Wish we were there!!!

Hi Howardk613,
Think we're on the same cruise also. Add us to the list of getting a taxi and visiting Mahahual Beach. Also, if possible, we'd like to visit the moneky farm which I understand is about a 15-20 min taxi ride away from the port. I did hear they recently had a mosquito infestation there so this might not be possible. My kids are disappointed that we can't snorkel with the stingrays also.
I believe DCL will offer a beach excursion to Uvero Beach and then there is the ruins tour. My kids didn't want to do that (ruins). I'm sure DCL will offer some sort of snorkel excursion too. We can't book any of these until we get on the ship, so make a beeline for Guest Services if you're interested.
