My 7 y.o. (Matthew) has been sick since Tuesday night. My oldest had strep last week, so I took Matthew to the dr on Wednesday. No strep, but since then he has gotten progressively worse! His fever has gone up and won't go less than 100. He's been feeling more sick to his stomach. I'm taking him back to the dr today, but I just don't know if I should cancel the trip or not.

Even if he is feeling better by Sunday (our first park day) I'm worried that someone else is going to get this as soon as we get there. Not to mention Hurricane Ike!

WWYD?

Thanks in advance!

I would still probably go for it. Once you find out what the dr. says, you will have a better idea. If it's strep, they'll give him an antibiotic, and he should feel better pretty quickly. That's a hard one though.

As for Ike...I'm not much of a hurricane expert being in the midwest, but isn't WDW usually pretty safe during the storms? It's the rain that's a pain, right? I would buy ponchos and hope for the best. September is always an iffy time to go for this reason...I don't think I'll ever have the nerve to do it! :scared1:

Good luck deciding. Hopefully, you'll be able to go!

I'd have the doctor recheck for strep. It might have been too soon to test. Feeling sick to your stomach with fever is a good indication, particularly if you have been exposed. Do you see any redness or white spots on his throat?

If he does have strep, ask your doctor for prescriptions for the members of your family who have not had it yet. You can get them filled in Orlando if you need to. Strep is very treatable, and he should feel better tomorrow if he gets treated today.

Hope he feels better soon!

So, we're back from the dr again. Definately not strep, and not mono (it's going around here). She said that it is just a virus that it is taking a while to move out. She said that she wouldn't cancel the trip, because she feels like he'll be better in a day or 2.

He is a little more perky today and is aggrivating his brothers, so I'm thinking that we may be nearing the end of this....

Thanks for the advice!

Last year, 2 days before our trip, our 2 young dd's both ended up with ear infections... I was worried, especially with flying, but they started on an antibotic and were much better by the time we arrived. Disney gave us a fridge to keep their meds in.

Hope everyone is feeling better soon! Have a great trip!!

I'm glad he sounds like he's on the mend! We encountered this on our last trip. DS had strep and I started getting a wicked sore throat the day before we left. I got to the doctor, explained we were leaving and that DS had strep and even though my culture was negative he put me on a dose of antibiotics to be safe.

Hope he gets better soon and you guys have a GREAT trip!!!!

I feel your pain. It reminds me of my last trip in May. Woke up Saturday morning and 5 year old had thrown up. We were not sure if this was the flu or just something she had eaten. Went to Long Beach (CA) airport to check in, found out our Jet Blue flight had been delayed and we would miss our connecting flight in Austin. Guess where they sent us.? New York! so flew 5 hours to New York and then 3 hours in the Airport (one of the worst I have ever visited) and daughter is getting progressivly worse. We wound up getting to SSR at 2:00am! (Left California at 9:00am that morning) 2 year old got sick the next morning and we spent 2 days in our Villa before they got better. Still enjoyed the rest of our trip, but it's definately no fun traveling with sick kids.

Sorry but I'm the total opposite of everyone, I'd reschedule if possible. Maybe if the possible tropical storm wasn't going to hit there then I'd say go for it, but do you want to be bringing a sick child around in the rain? Did you get trip insurance? You probably could reschedule and just pay a fee for changing the air. Good luck with whatever you decide. I hope your LO feels better soon!

We'll he's feeling much better.

We're headed out today about 1:00. We'll be driving (we're in Ga) so he'll have plenty of more time to rest if needed.

Thanks again!

We have just returned this morning from 2 weeks at WDW. Day 2 of our holiday my 2.5 dd comes down with something (high fever, off her food etc). Lots of drugs, a few slower days and we road it out. Kids have perfect timing don't they??? :rotfl2:
