We are going to Disney Sat., Aug. 30 to Sat., Sept. 6., but staying off property. I'm trying to finalize our itinerary. Is it a bad idea to visit any of the parks on the day of departure? Our flight is at 6:30 PM, so I thought we would be able to squeeze in one more day at MK, but not sure if we should leave it open for shopping, relaxing by the pool, or what? Not sure how tired everyone will be at that point. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated!

we usually just play the last day by ear. we've often gone to a park on our day of departure. sometimes we just hang out by the pool. othertimes we've gone to dtd and shopped and caught a movie. it depends on what we're in the mood for. :)

In ten vacations to WDW (before moving here), we ALWAYS spent the last day at MK. If we were leaving early in the morning, then we spent the day before that at MK. Milage may vary for others, but we just felt that we had to have our last dose of magic before departing. Our vacations were usually seven to nine days in length and we always planned on MK for a last visit.

Well, the 1972 qnd 1973 visits, there was only Magic Kingdom and we only stayed two or three days. LOL

caitycaity has it right - leave it TBD. You could be tired, you could decide that you want some pool time - heck, maybe you'll feel that you haven't spent enough $$$ and buy more stuff! It is also possible - I know it's heresy here on DIS - that after a week you might have Disney Overload and need some time to sit, shivering, in the corner of your room :p . The cure to that is simply to go home - within minutes you'll wish you were back at WDW.

Our last day we had a flight leaving at 6:30 and we still did the parks. We spend a little time in MK, and in Epcot. We will got back in time to sit around and have a nice lunch before going to the airport. If you start early you will have time. You can relax when you get home. DisneyWorld is not the place to relax. There is too much to do.

We usually spend the last day Hitting all our favorite places even if all we do is look around. We typically ended up in MGM, MK and then we have lunch at one of the restaurants in the World Showcase area of EPCOT and leave there giving ourselves just enough time to get to the airport. I figure why get all rested for the flight home, we make the last day a real marathon. Its kind of cool getting home that night knowing that in the morning you were in your favorite WDW park.

We usually go to breakfast at Chef Mickey's and then head over to Downtown Disney for last minute shopping.

I would try to go to the parks as well. Especially since your flight is not until 6:30PM. Then maybe add something special to it.

We have a flight that leaves around that same time and are letting our children do the Pirate Cruise in the morning and then a late, late lunch at MK and a few rides before leaving.

You could schedule a late character breakfast (sort of a brunch) as a nice way to end the trip - if it happens to be in one of the parks (ie: Crystal Palace, etc...) then ride your "favorites" once more before leaving.

Whatever you decide - HAVE FUN!
