What to do in Nassau?

From what I have read, there are a few options. I have never cruised before, and have a few questions.. Pardon me if they sound dumb!

1) Atlantis Tour--either rent a room there, or the Comfort Suites nearby.

Isnt there a FREE tour? (I know you can see a portion of the aquarioum for free) How do you get there? Cab, walk? How much is cab?

2) Dolphin swimming.. now, which company is reputable?


3) Is there any way to just go on the beach without people hassling you?

(My DH who has been to the Bahamas, wants me to see the clear blue water)

Any other ideas? Will the stores/restaurants take credit cards?

Just wondering.

I'd rather not get hassled by overzealous merchants!

Hello! Not sure if you have children or not but we are not going over to Paradise Island. We have 2 DS and we are going to Ardastra Gardnes, the Pirates Museum and the Straw Market. How about some of the forts? How about going up the water tower to check out the view? Hope this helps.......

We just came back from a cruise to Nassau. It was I and my DS. We had reserved a room at the comfort suites. The total cost for the two of us was $204. As soon as you get of the ship there will be people there to direct you to the taxis. It costs $4 per person each way to get to comfort suites/atlantis resort. There are plenty of taxis waiting there. We checked in at comfort suites and walked over to atlantis. This place is very big and we did not see everything. The lazy pool is very slow and short. Not anything like TL or BB. The beach was beautiful and I could have spent more time there. We went on the slide but it was a very long line. Saw most of the aquariums and saw hammerheads. Also spent some time in their pools. Overall I don't think it warranted the $200 but I can say that I have been there. Oh and also gambled about $3 in the casino. I am glad I went because I was planning on flying in someday and spending a few days there. This way was a lot cheaper. We got there around 9 a.m. and left around 3 p.m. The shops in Nassau close around 5 - 5:30 p.m. so we were able to shop a little. Not much there except diamonds, sapphires, emeralds, etc and regular bahama tourist nicknacks.

We went to Atlantis and it was $6 pp rt for the water taxi. Then you take a maybe 10 minute walk to Atlantis. FYI they have these guys who give narration and they don't work for the water taxi company. They do expect a small tip--you don't have to, but they appreciate it. I won $70 in the casino in the slot machine. Also, there is a beach that is supposed to be nice. You take a taxi to the Wyndham hotel -- Crystal Hotel and Casino I believe. They let you use their pool and beach for free. Maybe someone who has gone can tell you more about it. It is supposed to have a big casino, too. Downtown didn't impress us at all. Didn't go to the Straw Market because people on these boards say it is very high pressure and dirty. Hope this helps.

Anyone know the easiest way to get to see the pirate museum? Transportation, tickets, etc.

Hello debm! We will walk it is less than a mile from our calculations and this way you can see some of the other sights. You can also take a taxi or I believe bus #1 for a $1.00 each. Not sure on that one so maybe solenone else would be able to help you. We are going to take a taxi to Ardastra Gardens and then walk back to the Pirates Museum and through the Straw Market on our back to the ship. As for tickets you can purchase them right there which is what we plan on doing. Not sure if you can purchase them else where or not.... Anybody know if you can buy them before hand?

We rented a moped for the afternoon, it was $40 but was well worth it. Was scared at first, they drive on the wrong side of the road. After the firrst 10 mins. hubby was a pro. We found forts. beaches, the local animal shelter, and rode the neighborhoods looking at exotic plants. If you go down past the straw market about 1 or 2 miles there was a fort and a beach, we were the only ones there.

My vote is to stay on the ship and enjoy the almost empty pools. (I don't mean empty in water level...I guess a better choice of words would be less crowded pools! Sorry )

Nassau just wasn't my cup of tea. I did enjoy the Atlantis tour on our first cruise. The resort is beautiful. It does require alot of walking, but it's worth the trip. Since we have seen the place, we choose to stay on the ship and swim and relax.

EmmasGrammy, we have been to Nassau twice on the Wonder and NEVER gotten off. I was scared to since I had never been anywhere like that before and we have 4 kids to bring along. But we just got off the Eastern in May and we got off at both St. Maarten and St. Thomas for a little while. It was fun. So we figured this time we should get off for a little while! Will probably wait until after lunch at least---let the crowds go in the morning to their excursions and then wander off. Thanks for the tips. Debi
