I am going to Vegas with my sister for 4 days in April. She will be at a work conference every day during the day. We are staying at Mandalay Bay. I am not a huge gambler, so I plan on spending a lot of time reading out by the pool. I have 3 children under 6 years old and this is my FIRST time being away from all of them. I am excited to have some alone time.

Any tips on what to do during the day? Places I should eat? Things I should see?

I don't know what I am going to do with 4 days of FREE time. ;)

Lucky you! I wouldn't be seeing the light of day. I'd be in the casinos all day every day! :lmao:

mandalay bay is really a destination in itself. they have an awesome aquarium, nice shopping, and a magnificent spa. i stayed there once and never really had to leave. Their pool is like a water park in itself. but Vegas has the Fashion show mall which is awesome! You have to go to the venetian and walk through the streets. Here is a great map of the strip: http://www.vegas.com/lounge/map.html

Vegas is my second fave place after DW~

That is exciting!

There is so much you can do and have not have it cost you a lot.

There is:

Bellagio Water Fountains. I think you can get a list of what songs play when off of their site. They also have a Conservatory on the main floor of their casino that they change every season, they do it all in live flowers and plants. They have performances inside their shopping area if I am not mistaken. They have a delicious Sunday Champagne Brunch, about $40 or so, so little high, but the food they offer Yumm!

Mandalay Bay: The House of Blues restaurant is there and I go there every time I visit Vegas. They also have the Shark Reef if you like looking at Ocean animals. I can't remember how much this costs now. Their pool area is Amazing!

Venitian: Shopping (as in all the Casino's!) They have a Canal ride you can do, bit pricey if I remember right, but I took my then 12 year old on it and she got a kick out of it. They also have performances inside their shopping area, it is either the Bellagio or the Venitian that puts on a nice little Opera. Try and catch those, they also have some other little things they do.

New York New York, they have a little Irish Pub there (If I remember the right place) that was good, can't remember pricing on it though.

Treasure Island: They have a show at night (outside) with Sirens of the Sea, good interaction between two different Pirate Ships and songs. Might be a bit Riske, didn't get a chance to see it last time I went.

Mirage: Their Volcano errupts every night. I think they have the Dolphin Encounter as well, but you have to pay for that.

MGM Grand: They have the White Tigers habbitat, great to see and free. It's on the ground floor of the Casino. Rain Forest Cafe is also there.

As you can tell, those are my three favorites. Each Casino offers such a different atmosphere, I would really soak those up it's a great experiance.

As you can tell you will not want for something to do, if anything, Relax and enjoy your first trip without the kiddies!

Hi. We just got back a month or so ago from Vegas and we stayed at MB. We didn't gamble much at all.

The pools looked awesome (but they weren't open yet) and that is a good plan.

Wear comfortable shoes.

Everything in Vegas is BIG and Vast.

The hotels/casinos are a trip and so much fun to see.

There are half price ticket booths where you can get discounts on shows. I highly recommend LOVE which is a Cirque show.

The Burger Bar which is in the shoppes at Mandalay Bay is awesome. Mandalay's breakfast buffet is huge and has plenty of choices. Go at brunch time and you can get two meals done for the price of one.

The Fashion Show Mall is so cool!!! And I'm not a huge shopper. I'd also look to see if there are any shows going on that you'd like to see. I know that I'd have to go see a magic show, hypnotist show, or comedy show while I was in Vegas.

CHIPPENDALES!!!! :cool1:

(at the RIO...not that I know from experience...)

Can you say....SPA DAY!!!!

Get a facial, massage, mani and pedi. The spas in Vegas are wonderful. Most of the resorts on the strip have them. Enjoy!!

Wow! Lucky you. I hope this thread keeps up, I am enjoying reading everyones tips.

I agree with the spa day the Mandalay Spa is awesome. The Bodies and Titanic exhibit are next door at the Luxor. Town Square is a wonderful outside shopping mall that is near Mandaly Bay go to the Claim Jumper for lunch or see a movie at the Rave cinema.

That sounds like HEAVEN! :cloud9: Plenty of alone time, plus fun with your sis in the evenings.
I'm not a gambler either. There is more than enough in Vegas to keep you occupied (or not occupied--I think I'd spend most of the time by the pool and napping in my room) without gambling. Just exploring the various hotels and stopping for coffee or shopping could keep you busy for 4 days. Have a great time!

MGM Grand: They have the White Tigers habbitat, great to see and free. It's on the ground floor of the Casino. Rain Forest Cafe is also there.

The lions are at MGM Grand. The white tigers *were* at the Mirage. We were there in early December and the place where the white tigers were is now a burger joint. We weren't looking specifically for the tigers but noticed it when we walked thru there, I'm not sure if they created another free viewing area or not. I'm sure you can still see that in the Secret Garden but you have to pay to get in.

With kids that age, go to Caesers and hit FAO Schwartz in the Forum Shops. My kids are 13 and 16 and I think we spent 2 hours in there! There's also an aquarium all the way at the back with an hourly show, the Fall of Atlantis (it's a VERY BIG place!)

Vegas is a people watching mecca, we spent almost 2 days just walking the strip, going in and out of hotels and shops. The new Palazzo is absolutely GORGEOUS!!

Oh that's so sad! I loved watching those cubs.

There is an outlet mall at the South end of the strip, past Luxor that has some fun shops including a Disney Outlet store. I have picked up great bargins on Disneyland stuff in there. Golf shirts for $10 and the $50 fleece hoodies for $15.

I will be there in April too and plan on spending part of a day at this mall. :cool1:

Thank you for the map link. It will be nice to have an idea of the location of each hotel before I make my plans! Thanks!!

Thank you for all of the great suggestions. I am going to write them down to take with me. It is so nice to have "real world" suggestions from travels who have been to Vegas. It will be nice to RELAX and enjoy my first trip without the kids! Hopefully my next trip will be to WDW with the kids. ;)

kittychatalot - off topic.

ARe you going to the MNSSHP on your next WDW trip? I love that party. IT is my favorite thing to do while at WDW. My DS and I were watching the video of the Boo To You parade yesterday.

Thank you for the food tips. I might hit up the brunch buffet. I love breakfast food. YUMMY.

I have never been to a Cirque show. I hear they are awesome. I am going to look for the half price ticket booths! Thanks.
