What to do at a lunch mtg.??

Through my work, I participate in a mtg.(about once a week) that occurs over lunch. Frequently, they serve a boxed lunch--the most recent being cold meat sandwich, chips, pasta salad, and pie. :rolleyes: Today's lunch mtg. they served pizza!! :( I think once since the beginning of my WISH challenge, they served a salad. :)

I know I could eat before I go or bring my own lunch. I know I could just eat nothing. But, it is so awkward to either bring and eat your own, say no when the boxes are distributed, and/or just sit with an empty plate.

If it's a familiar group of coworkers, I wouldn't have a problem with just bringing my own lunch. But, when you are served in an unfamiliar group--it is soooo awkward. I'm just not into "public dieting".

The other day for the boxed lunch, I scraped off the meat off the bun(messy) and ate that and wasted the rest. Today, I scraped off the meat and cheese and ate that. Then, I sat during the remainder of the 2 hour meeting with a gross piece of crust staring at me. :crazy2: Then, I started feeling deprived and hungry and that's not good for any dieter.

OK, thanks for listening. What do all of you do in these situations where you have no control of the meal?
 
Well...I don't "do"meetings but I am in an eating situation everday at work. I work in a middle school lunchroom and we serve really GOOD food everyday!! At the beginning of the school year I purchased a cheap microwave to use at work. I take leftovers from the night before and I sometimes make my co-workers drool!! I started the Atkins plan in the middle of summer so I was already conditioned to staying on the plan. I was determined to stick with it no matter what anyone else thought or said. It is tough some days to smell the other food but I am proud of myself for resisting all kinds of good "bad" stuff!!! To make matters worse I am one of the bread/dessert cooks!!! Anyway...if you decide that you are going to be truly faithful to your way of eating it will be easier to eat what you bring to work and to not let it bother you about what someone else thinks of that you feel out of place. It might be tough at first but once they see you losing weight it will make it easier. And since you eat salad you can still eat that when you want to. I would speak to the person in charge of ordering and try to get them to make sure they order you a salad or something else you can eat.
