What to do angry

Our DD12 was scheduled to have back surgery Feb 2007. We decided to take her to WDW to cheer her up a little. We ended up with a great deal so we got 10 day passes with no expiration. We asked a close friend of DD to come with us, our treat. We are close to the friend's familiy. Her mother is a widow and has a hard time making ends meet. At first she said no because she wanted to take her daughter one day. After talking with her familiy she decided to let her go. She came to the conclusion that this was a once in a lifetime trip and she should let her daughter go. We had a blast. We then decided to take two other three day trips and ask other friends of DD.

bringing newbies is a blast. It is so much fun seeing them have a great time in the World.

OP, I wouldn't let my DD go at 12 that far away, we are in PA.

My daughter is 12, and I would not let her go! We are more strict than most parents around us, but that isn't saying much, because all the parents around here let there kids do whatever they like...Small town, and I don't they can be bothered. A liitle off track...... But no I would not be comfortable with that.

Oh and I would never miss the chance at a Disney trip, so I'll take DD and DS's as often as possible ! LOL

I'll go with you....LOL! No, seriously, take your mom. I would LOVE it if I could get my mom to go to WDW with me. I bet your mom would have a blast!:thumbsup2

Hi all!

Please keep the replies on this thread friendly. It is fine to disagree, but if the posts become heated or to attacky this thread will be closed and points may be given.

Okay - I find this thread so funny because I just told my 16 year old SON that he is not going to Orlando with a friend over April break. There are so many reason to not let him go!

He said it would only cost airfare.....okay.....but maybe I dont want to pay for airfare. What would happen when the next child (there are 4 here) has that opportunity and we might not have the money.

Maybe I dont think it would be right or appropriate for his friends parents to pay for everything else....we have been to Florida enough times that I can figure out pretty well how much it costs to go places, do things and eat.

Maybe I dont want him to go because I dont particularly trust this friend even though we have known him for years and his parents seem pretty watchful and aware. Teenagers ya know.

Maybe I am afraid to have him that far away from us in case of an emergency ..... overprotective? maybe but that is my choice.....

Maybe I dont want him to go because we are going as a family this summer and it would be kind of overkill for HIM and whether he likes it or not he's going to have Florida fun with US and not them lol.

Maybe I think it might have been NICE for the parents of his friends to call US and ask US first before it was presented to HIM so that we dont have to be the BAD guy!!

Anyway...I hope it all works out for you. My son took it very well so we are happy here. Cant wait until August!!

We have opted a cruise just the immediate family. The cost is comparable to Disney and we get to visit Jamaica, Cozumel and caymn islands. WE have been to Jamaica just DH and I, and probably wont do any excusion there but will do the stingray island one in cayman and maybe some shopping in Cozumel for safety reasons. The mom never got back with us either way so I just assume she wont and if she does later on I will just tell her we cancelled Disney. The kids are excited to do something new.

Ok OK many have already changed my mind and convinced me it is a bad idea and I have agreed so why do people keep responding? LOL I know its a message board but there is no more opinions needed as I have made up my mind that its not happening LOL and I agree for many reasons I had not thought of when originally posting

I didn't think it was a bad idea.

I'm torn.

I won't even let friends watch our dogs when we vacation... It's my sister/dad or we don't go.

I also have a hard time picturing letting our son go off with another family for a week.

But... our son is an only child and I guess I've always assumed he'd bring friends when he was older at least on our weekend trips to the mountains (we have land in CO) and perhaps other trips.
