What to do about lunch?

We ate in Nassau at Conch Fritters. It is very close to dock, about a block or so up from strawmarket and senor frogs.

The restaurant is very nice, second floor, big open windows which allow you to look out at the action around the town. The food was wonderful. Very laid back place.

We also grabbed a snack at the filipino restaurant right to the left of the strawmarket. It was wonderful as well.

There is also a senor frogs to eat at.

I prefer to eat my lunch on the ship (I like that "all inclusive price" concept). However, many of the crew members recommend an Italian restaurant in Nassau called Cafe Matisse that I plan to try someday.

not sure about nassau...but we took sandwiches/snacks into both key west & grand cayman. we brought it for our DSs, just in case they got hungry, and them being a bit "picky"...just wanted to be safe. and they sure came in handy!! just remember to pack zip lock bags!! (a great tip i learned from here!!) we just ordered room service, put the sandwiches in the ziplock bags, and we're set! have fun! :flower:

We just ate a large breakfast and skipped lunch. We had plenty of room for dinner :rotfl2: .

We grabbed some sandwiches from room service and took some boxes of cereals off the boat incase the kids got hungry. We had a big breakfast so we werent really hungry until we got back to the ship

I believe there is a Sbarro's pizza and a Wendy's on the main street too if you want simple fast food instead of going back to the ship.

but why pay for "regular" food that you can get back at home? if you're going to eat off the ship, i'd say go for the local food. unless of course, you've got picky little eaters, (like our DSs)... :flower:

When in Rome... don't eat from the ship, enjoy the local food. If you like seafood check out the area called Fishfry. There are a number local seafood restruants in this area. It's located just up the way from the docks. Big 10 is one of the best local dives. Everytime I have gone there it's just locals and maybe a few stragglers. I have found that if you want *authentic* island food ask your taxi driver where to eat. Tell them what you want and they will get you there.

If you're like me you want to taste the local flavor and this is a great way of doing it. I had the *best* Conch Fritters in my life down at Fishfry.

Good luck.

Reading this thread made me think of the gal who does that show on the Travel Channel and eats all the food for $40 a day or less ... :)
Man! For a little gal she sure can eat.

Exactly...why go to a new place and not sample the foods and visit with the locals!

I think that is on the food network, but I have also thought about that! How can she eat so much and stay so little. I think she just tries some of the food and leaves the rest for her camera crew :rotfl: .

Samantha Brown on Great Hotels also seems to be able to order these big meals as well. I think her camera crew probably eats pretty good as well. ;)

Any place good to eat at Atlantis?? How pricey?

Yes, if you go around back to the marina there is a deli there. We had a pastromi sandwich that we split because it was SO big! I think the price was over $10 but I can't recall exactly.I don't know how to post photos or else I would show you what I'm talking about.

My DH has a huge crush on Samantha Brown ;) He and the kids were watching the one where she is at Wilderness Lodge the other afternoon - they called me at WORK to tell me that we HAVE to go stay in the Villas.

And to make this on-topic, if you want to take lunch with you, should you order it the night before from room-service? Also does room-service cost extra for the food or just the tip? And do you tip when they deliver or at the end???

that all depends on the time you plan on getting off the ship...one day, we had to get off super early, so we ordered it the night before, and kept it in the little fridge thing. another day, we did it that day, since we didn't have to leave the ship till later. (after morning/breakfast rush)

no, room service does not cost anything, if you order off the menu. but i think soda is extra? or i've read!

as for tip...you tip as the food is delievered. cuz everytime we ordered, it's different people, if i recall! :flower:

We did the Dolphin Encounter in Nassau, and lunch was incl. They had a pavillion with a bbq and you could chose from ribs, burgers and chicken, with a side ,and a drink. It was very good.
