What to do about Beach & Sand Toys at Castaway Cay?

We are going on the 3 day cruise with our 3-year-old next week and she's dying to make sand castles on the beach.

Recommendation for what to do about beach/sand toys? Pack them with me or get them there? I don't really feel like packing even MORE stuff.

But my daughter will be disappointed if we don't build a beach sand castle. Thoughts? Anyone BTDT?

And what about pool toys?

we bought a bag of sand toys and never opened them.

cassie was dying to build a sand castle but was having so much fun in the water she plum forgot about them until we left and she saw the bag in the room. then she pitched a fit she didn't get to make a castle.

oh well what can you do right

A 3 yo doesn't need a lot of sand toys to keep them happy. :) I would pack some things from the dollar store to use on CC and leave them there at Scuttle's Cove for others to use in the club area.

There really isn't room for pool toys on the ship. In order for kids to go into the Mickey pool they have to be fully PTd, no swim diapers allowed. This is per CDC regulations. A couple years ago DCL was the only line to have an exception to this rule with their splash area on each ship. If your DD does need to use the splash area people have recommended taking swim shoes because the flooring of the area is slippery.

There are bunches of sand toys in the Oceaneer's Club area on Castaway, many of which were "donated" by past cruisers. Ask the CM if your DD can borrow some and return them! If they won't allow that, then buy them.

The first cruise we took we brought sand toys and my 5 year old daughter hardly played with them. The last cruise we took she used the paper cups used for drinks to build her sand castle. The paper cups worked great and we just threw them away when we were done.

You could also dig by the beach chairs, we always hide our sand toys before we leave with the hopes that someone will discover our "hidden treasure."

Worst case if you get there and it's really an issue the toy kit at CC is only $10 and is very nice quality.

I was just at my Dollar Tree Store yesterday and they have Disney mini sand buckets that come with a shovel. They are the perfect little size. I would say about 7 inches tall. They have Cars, Tink , Princesses, and My friends Tigger and Pooh. They are PERFECT for this cruise and only 1 dollar!!

Just thought I would share.

This sounds like the PERFECT fish extender gift to me!

If you go to WDW before the cruise grab one of the kids meal plates (the mickey shaped ones) and bring it with you. They make great sand molds. We were the envy of many children on our last trip to CC and that was the only "toy" we brought.

The great thing is that the sand at CC is perfect for packing and can be easily molded just with your hands. You really don't even need many, if any, toys. Cups and plates are more than enough.

Here's a closeup of the sand.

Great idea! After years of throwing these away we started saving them. We have about 4 now and 1 lid. Perfect for making Mickey shaped bricks!

Shirley's gift baskets also can include sand toys. We always get our kids a large pail basket, which comes filled with some sand toys, special treats, and princess surprises.

:thumbsup2

WDW no longer uses the mickey shaped plates. The plates they use now are just traditional paper plates (in all the parks and the resorts).

Darn! We love those little plates! Ds8 likes to serve us nachos in the big circle with salsa and cheese in the ears. :lovestruc

What are Shirley's gift baskets? I've looked through the Shirley's Cocoa Beach thread but didn't see it? Is that the same Shirley?

We just bought some of those and they fit perfectly in my kids carry-on backpacks!:cool1:
