With talk that they may cancle this weekends cruises
the crew members may have to take out an empty
ship. I was just wondering what they would
do with the time ?

Well, if it were me and I worked those hours I'd sleep!!

It won't be like dry dock, but I betcha that they will continue to work long hard hours - probably doing a deep cleaning of the ship.

This assumes that they will have the ship without any guests. It sounds like that is not going to be happening.

Some areas may get a more worked over since it is likely that the ships will not be nearly as full as they could be because of people not being able to arrive in FL.

I would agree, I bet they would have them do a DEEP cleaning. But I would also imagine they may get a chance to relax and try to enjoy some of the facilities they never get to use themselves! What a cool opportunity that would be!

A ship without guests is not the current plan....however, everyone above is right. If/when such a thing does happen, everyone cleans.

We sailed shortly after the time when the sailing was cancelled for a week due to the Norwalk virus. You could really tell a difference in the cleanliness of the cabins. They do a great job of keeping up with things, but she was looking a little in need of that deep cleaning on our previous sailing. After the dry dock, things really looked great in the public areas! Funny....after 10 cruises, you start to critique the maintenance!

I am just amazed at the fact that they can get any amount of cleaning done in the 3 hours they have to clean in between boardings! :) THey are great!

Sounds line neither ship will be empty, and in the case of the Magic, folks will be "held hostage" two additional days. I could deal with that.
What does interest me is what kind of meal planning are they doing? Are they just going to continue the normal menu as they would if new passengers got on Saturday? How much extra food do they have on board? Planning to have enough of everything under normal circumstances is mind boggling to me....but to have to feed 3000 people for 2 extra days has to be a challenge.
Wonder what they will run out of first? Perishables like eggs and milk? Probably something like beer!!!!
I can't wait to hear from folks on board how things are being handled on the two extra days.

Oh, I never even thought about running out of food. I know they will be so fine as far as all that goes. With all the planning they have to do I bet there are all kinds of contingencies. It would be interesting to hear from someone who is on there right now.

Most cruise ships will typically carry two to three days of extra food on board for just such a case as this hurricane. There will definitely NOT be anyone on board who gets hungry due to a lack of food and drink.

Unless you are NCL. :)

They probably have enough onboard so people won't starve but I could see them running out of things. Maybe that is way the stopped in Galviston, to take on supplies.

That was mentioned during the galley tour. If I recall correctly, I think it was mentioned that they were required to stock extra just for such a situation. I think it was a two or three day cushion.

I know the Magic is stopping in Galveston for more suppiles...not sure what the Wonder is doing
