What To Bring To Make The Trip More Enjoyable???

NO NO NO!!!

This is very dangerous. No flames of any type are allowed in staterooms.

I bought potpourrie and filled several mesh bags with it, and hung them form doors/knobs around teh cabin.

I also ordered a gorgeous bouquetfrom Shirley at the Perfect Gift with lots of stargazer lilies, you could smell them from outside the cabin!!

ducklite, I like your style! Here I am again, cringing at some of these suggestions. If you are in an inside cabin, you are in a small enclosed space. It's recommended that air fresheners, deodorizers, etc., not be used around pet birds, the chemicals kill them. If you have kids, I'd think twice. And if you get headaches, don't blame DCL. Just imho. Diana

Regarding the laundry soap:
in our area we now have various laundry detergents in a tablet form. Seems that they would be much better than trying to bring a powder or liquid form. Just drop a tablet or two into the water. And don't forget a ziplock bag with fabric softener sheets. They, too, can be used as a freshener in the closet or a drawer.

More money, sunscreen and film than you planned....less clothes!

Have a great cruise!

yeah...i kinda figured the candles where a really bad idea...just had to ask!!!

Not going to bring spray fragrance...most of that stuff stinks to me but the potpourrie sounds like a pretty good idea and the stargazer lilies sounds like an excellent idea. Did they last all week though?

Aseafish...DH and I are big coffee drinkers, we were quite surprised the coffee on the ship is excellent. We really enjoyed it, going up to deck 9 in the wee hours of the morning and bringing it back to the stateroom.
If Joe and Joanne were on your cruise, you'd see Joe up there in the wee hours also sipping coffee. Hi Joe!!!!!!!!!

BeanoC...Funny about the fragrance, I wore a new fragrance on our cruise, when we got home my 10 yr old DD kept saying after I put it on, It smells like the cruise in here. I just broke the news to her last week that it was my fragrance. She was very disappointed. Maybe I shouldn't have told her.

Not only did they last all week, but they were in full bloom on debarkation day, and you aren't allowed to take them off the ship. Not wanting to throw them away (they were still GORGEOUS!!) I gave them to Geri and Gabriella, our concierge team to enjoy in their office. They had seen them in our cabin and had commented on how pretty they were :) I hope they liked them as much as I did. Shirley, if you read this, they were so wonderful!!

Ok, one more thought on room freshener...I use Bounce sheets in our luggage to keep everything smelling fresh and when we get to the ship I slip one in an unobtrusive place and one in the closet and one in the bathroom. Last all week and smells way better than a lot of those room freshners. Just a thought!:bounce: :p:D :)

Ducklite: They wouldn't let you take the flowers off? Is this because of typical rules about bring fruits and plants into the country from other areas?

I suspect my mom is planning on having something delivered to our room for the honeymoon.

Thanks!

Yup! You can't take any fruits, meat products, flowers, plants, animals, etc. off the ship due to US Customs rules.

There was a table in the port as we were leaving piled high with banana's, oranges, apples and such that people had dropped off as they were entering the port.

In addition to "normal" US Customs rules, the State of Florida has a no import rule on fruits and vegetables. If you are driving to Florida, there will be an Ag station and they will confiscate any fresh fruit you have in your car. The MedFly disaster was caused by one careless tourist who didn't follow the rules.

I also brought:

Hats for all (That sun is a KILLER!)
Downy Wrinkle Release Spray
Lanyards for holding our room keys
Shoe organizer (The kids weren't allowed to ask where something was until they had looked there first!)

Walkie talkies were useless for us. They didn't work when we needed them.

Have fun!

you are kidding...seriously?? they didn't work ... the walkie talkies didn't work?? Darn...WWWAAAHHHHH!!!!!:(

If you have one near you, go to your Bath & Body Works at your mall...they sell wonderful small aerosol air fresheners in many wonderful and different scents. They run $5 each, but will last forever! They are very concentrated and did a wonderful job in keeping our stateroom smelling great!!

:earseek:

I always take a water bottle with a bigger mouth on it and then go to the buffet or beverage center and fill my bottle with ice and water to take to the islands and to have when lying by the pool (it saves on trips to get something to drink). Its also nice to have a night-light especially when staying in an inside cabin since it is very dark! I highly advise air freshners. On our cruise in May, we had the cabin steward come and do something about the horrible smell in our cabin. I really wished I had an air freshner.

Okay, I've only been on one Disney Cruise (12/01) but I am going again in November!!!

Anyway, some things I found useful, and some things I thought of afterward and will bringing in November for sure are:

1)Your own soda/bottled water
(I brought a little too much last time, but it was nice to have, since you pay for soda everytime except at dinner) Also, bottled water came in handy when we were at port, at the pool, or at Castaway.) Maybe a bottle of water for everyone in the party, and a 12 pack of soda.

2) Lanyards for your key are a MUST. You carry it everywhere you go, and half the time you run around in your bathing suit. That key gets you into your room, on and off the ship, and you pay for everything with it. A lanyard makes it easy so you don't lose it, or have to worry about having pockets/bag etc. Try to find something that keeps thing waterproof, that way you can wear it in the water at castaway and at the pool!

3) A beach towel... those little towels just don't cut it on lounge chairs or in the sand.

4) A journal, and make notes of what you see and do.. it is fun to read it, and remember the wonderful cruise you are bound to have!

5) If you can fit them, extra hangers (especially if you have a large party) There are never enough hangers. I brought cheap ones and just left them behind.

6) motion-sickness medication. You never know how the seas will be, and its super expensive on board.

7) Also, bring sunscreen, and aloe. Again, super expensive.

8) Extra film and camera batteries... otherwise you will pay 5 times the price on board or worse will miss out because you will have to wait until night to by it (shops onboard aren't open while the ship is at port!!)

9) Thank you cards for the CM's that really make your cruise. Can personalize your tips for all their wonderful service!

Also, sometimes its good to NOT bring stuff, since space is such an issue.... here are some of my suggestions for what not to bring!

1) Too many shoes! Shoes take up so much space (packing and stateroom space), and I spent most time either in flip/flops or bare feet!

2) Hair dryer. They have one on the ship, and I know a lot of people say its not a great one, but it worked okay for me. Granted mine is better at home, but still I was glad to have the extra space!

3) Snack foods.. YOU DON'T need any more food. You eat and eat and eat. It's a waste!

4) Think of what you will do, and only bring enough clothes for that. Again, space is limited, and if there are more then 2 people in your stateroom, space will REALLY be an issue.

Also, pack a carry-on with this in it. It takes some time for your luggage to get to your state room.

1)bathing suit
2)camera
3) change of clothes suitable for dinner (in the rare occassion your luggage takes long, and you have early dinner seating).

Sorry so long winded. And read these boards. I can't say how much they helped me prepare, ask questions, the people on here are wonderful.. and it helps get you excited too!!

Have fun!!

I don't know what lanyards are...it sounds like a great idea but i just don't know what they are?? and were do you get them....?? We are leaving tomorow so any help would be great! Also....if anyone has been on the cruise that goes to Grand Cayman does anyone know the BEST stingray city excursion to go on with a 13 year old and a 7 year old??

Thanks again...you all have been wonderful help!

Heidi

What To Bring To Make The Trip More Enjoyable??? How about a 21 year old HUNK;) Just joking my Hubby is twice that age and will do just fine.:D

lanyards are little straps you wear around your neck, some are thinker material (used to carry pins for pin trading) others are about the size of a shoe lace. Anyway, you can get a little plastic holder that clips on, that you can carry your key in. I had my own on my last cruise, so I am not sure if the gift shop on board sells them. I imagine they would, since they would probably sell a lot of them. Maybe someone else on the board knows...

also, if you will be in town early, check some of the gift shops around orlando, and even the retailers like Eckerds or Walmart.

Have fun!!

We are counting the hours before we leave now!!!! So, I will be checking the message boards probably one or two more times before we leave tomorrow around 3 or so!!!

Any last minute things that haven't been mentioned??

:Pinkbounc :bounce: :Pinkbounc :bounce: SO EXCITED!!!::Pinkbounc :bounce: :Pinkbounc :bounce:
