What to bring for kids on plane?

I checked the Song website, and they do have the screens on the seat backs with pay per view movies & games. My kids will be lovin that! I don't have a portable dvd player so this is good! Hopefully it won't cost me a small fortune!

One great thing we like to bring on the plane is Model Magic. It's made by Crayola and is soft like play-doh but not messy at all. You can find it at any store by the Crayola products. The clay comes in standard colors but can be mixed together to make whatever color you like. The fun thing about this clay, besides the fact that it is not messy, is that it will harden up. My kids like to make small bowls and pretend food for the little animals or dolls that they bring along. At the end of the flight, I throw it all into a baggie, and it can be saved. This keeps them entertained for a long time, and the adults can play with it too!
Always bring small containers of playdoh for kids- they play for hours, along with a couple of cheap plastic dinnerware for tools.... gameboys and snacks!
I surprise them with new gameboy games and a few treats/toys, that thrills them- I've stocked up from ebay, some games and videos for the trip-

Bring food - #1 priority to me. Our last trip down to Disney this past June, we were suppose to leave PHL at 5pm and land at like 7:15pm, well we boarded the plan on time and then due to a thunderstorm and a woman who had to get off the plane because she was clausterphobic (SP?) we sat on the plane and did not leave PHL until 11:30pm and we arrived in MCO close to 2am - all of this stemmed from a 10 minute thunderstorm that passed over at like 5:30pm. All they served on the plane were those little pretzels and drinks. Fortunately we had food and plenty for the kids dd (8) and ds (4) to do between portable dvd, ea has their own game boys and stuff. Same thing happened on our way home, we were suppose to leave at 3pm, boarded plane at 5:30 and sat there until after 7pm to take off to come home.
Ugh! that sounds like it could have been anightmare, if you hadn't been prepared...never skimp on snacks and drinks...a messy shirt they can live with, but all those hours stuck on a plane? food is a neccesity!

we travel a lot and not just to Disney.

I always pack a new backpack with treats. I have juice boxes and some snacks. My DD is five and she looks forward to it. She knows a long journey means lots of travel treats. This has taken me through 12 hour car rides with no complaining of when are we going to get there or I am bored.

I pack the back pack with things to keep her busy. The typical things are crayons, stickers and paper, stencils. You can print out lot of Disney coloring pages from the web.

I have had great luck with a pack of pipe cleaners in bright colors. They can be bended into all kinds of shapes. We usually end up making jewelry out of them.

She has a Pixter that always goes with us.

The BEST thing I found for night driving or flying was a Doodle Glow it is like the regular Doodle but it lights up so coloring in the dark is fun. It's a little big so that works more for car trips or I have to put it in a tote bag, it doesn't fit easily into a kids backpack.

I also go to the Dollar store and buy some little things like dress up rings and neckpaces, sunglasses, just little things I can pull out for when she is really getting bored.

Another favorite is the magnet playsets. She has a My Little Pony and a dress up Barbie.

I bought a small Polly Pocket set for this trip.

I also make sure at least one of the above items is with me during the trip for down moments. While waiting for a restaurant my DD can cit and play with her Pixter, She colors while we wait for the parade to start when she is happy I am happy and I use a lot less headache medication!

Oh, please, *don't* bring real Play-Doh on a plane. Model Magic or Silly Putty is good, but Play-Doh is very, very bad. It crumbles super-easily when soft, and even when dry, it contains an oil which stains wool in a very nasty way. Should your child accidentally spill any of those tiny little crumbles on the seat, the business traveller who next occupies that spot may find a very expensive suit ruined forever.
