March '07 marks our first DVC point rental adventure and I'd appreciate any advice as to what we can bring from home to make the stay better. We're doing a grocery stop on the way in and will be preparing simple, light breakfasts and snacks, plus daily coffee. Any utensils, dishes, kitchen gadgets, towels, etc. not provided? Thanks for any info offered.

Studios don't have much in the way of kitchen gadgets and utensils and only paper bowls and plastic ware to eat with, so I'd probably bring some dishes etc. There will be a toaster, coffee maker, small fridge, and small microwave.

The paper products supplied are adequate for the proposed meals you will be having and just call to get additional supplies.

I drink lots of coffee in the AM...so I make sure I bring/have/buy a big enough coffee cup. :thumbsup2

Have a great trip!! :cool1:

I like to bring a small assortment of paper goods i.e., plates, bowls, spoons, forks, knives since there is usually not enough supplied by Disney if we are all eating breakfast in the room. I also usually bring some ziploc bags in different sizes and plastic storage containers (Gladware or similar) to use to store leftovers in. We have never really "prepared" breakfast or other meals during our stay. We have toasted poptarts, fixed bowls of cereal and popped popcorn. I have brought my own wine opener, stopper and plastic wine glasses on a couple of occasions. I also bring my own favorite coffee from home along with Splenda and real Half and Half.

I would bring a fitted Qn size sheet for the bed. Disney uses flat sheets and you will get only 1 bed service (during your full cleaning) for your 9 day stay so a fitted sheet will come in handy if you have the room in your suitcase.

I bring a couple of magnets to stick park hours, resort activities to the door/fridge.

Something to carry laundry in if you plan on doing laundry. You can bring your own detergent or buy the little boxes for $1. Softener sheets as they do not sell those in the vending machine.

A real knife or scissors always comes in handy.

COFFEE FILTERS!!! DVC coffee is already in the filters.

If I think of more, I will add :goodvibes

I bring the same kind of things. The studio will have a small assortment of paper plates and pastic ware. I bring Gladware/Ziplock bowls for leftovers and breakfast cereal and pick up extra plastic ware and napkins from WDW counter service restaurants along the way. I will also bring or buy wine glasses because I like the real thing better. You *can* ask for wine glasses and a blender to be delivered to a studio ... both come with the 1 BRs and I have asked for them in the past. We bring our own coffee and filters (Mr Coffee basket type). I also always bring laundry detergent and fabric sheets with me. The laundry is free but detergent, etc is not.

Thanks for the advice guys & gals, we'll put it to good use.

Get yourself a canvas hang on the door shoe organizer, and hang it on the bathroom door. This will give you a great place to store all the stuff that would normally take up some space on some horizontal surface and help keep everything organized and in one place. We learned this when going on a cruise, but we now use it whenever we travel. :thumbsup2

EDIT: I took out some unnecessary commas after Robin showed me my error. Truly, I appreciated it.

What the heck is a canvas except for something to paint on?

ETA: Nevermind. A canvas shoe organizer that hangs on the door. D'oh. I though you were talking about two things!

Sometimes I get carried away with commas... I admit I'm not an english major. :sad2:

Maybe not, but this is a great tip! :thumbsup2 I take my shoe hanger on every trip, even when staying in the larger units and on DCL too!

It works great and definitely keeps the clutter contained.

Organization is the key when staying in small spaces. (Too much HGTV :rotfl: )

We also take those pop up laundry hampers. We store them underneath the vanity and we use 1 for dirty clothes and 1 for shoes. The closets dont do shoes well with all the other stuff permanently stored in them, so the hampers work great and keep shoes in one place.

We also bring a pop-up hamper for clothes. I never thought about using one for shoes too!

Also keep in mind that there is not (very smal) space to freeze goods. The fridge are like the college dorm type but they are taller. You might be able to squwwzw 1 small frozen meals in there.

One thing that surprised me is that you don't get any of that Disney lotion in the DVC units like you do in the regular WDW hotels. I always seem to miss a spot when putting on sunscreen and need the lotion to sooth the burn, so I bring my own now.

You do get a little bottle of shampoo and soap for the sink and tub and will not get any more until your Trash & Towel day.

I always bring my own knife (the ones provided are too dull for my taste). I also bring a thin, plastic disposable cutting board (good for packing too).

I'd "bring" extra points for a one bedroom.

Really, that many days in a studio would be my worst nightmare. I stayed 3 days in one once with my wife, never again. I thoguht my wife was going to kill me when we walked into the room. :furious:

"Where is the Whirlpool tub and the kitchen?"

DW and I spent years booking 9 and 10 night stays in deluxe hotels around WDW. Then we booked a studio at BWV. There was a problem with our studio, so they moved us to a 1 bedroom. Now we own DVC, I don't think I could convince her to go back to a regular hotel room!

OMG... we have soo many little bottles of shampoo and conditioner, and lotion, that I have thought... maybe we should open our own little Disney store for those things. :rotfl2:

A couple of things we brought that I haven't seen mentioned:

1. a hanging organizer made of mesh to hold bottles of shampoo etc inside the shower by hooking it to the curtain -- this is my new favorite travel item;
2. a folding dish drainer (usally sold for use in boats and RVs);
3. dish cleaning wipes that already have soap on them -- no need to do a whole sink full of dishes; and
4. microwavable plastic plates.

We down-graded from a 1 BR to a studio with the 2 of us very comfortably, but the fabulous Boardwalk view probably made up some for the lack of space.

Best of luck -- Suzanne
