I interviewed for a job, was told I was their top choice and would get an offer today if my paperwork went through the state in time. I was given 9 days to get this done, whereas paperwork takes 15-45 days to process normally. At the interview I was told not to worry about that until necessary. HR called me again early this week to let me know they are aware they didnt give me anough time for the paperwork and now it is a problem, I was told they are trying to make an alternative arrangement for me, because of the paperwork issue. I was told they were either going to delay the start date or have to offer the position to a local candidate.:headache: She indicated that I was still the top choice and they didnt want to choose someone else, but that the manager did not want to delay the start date. She said she would let me know either way today.

I am literally sitting by the phone chomping at the bit. It is an out of state job and if I get it, I need to pack my car and drive 20 hours in the morning to be there for Monday to sign the contract.

At what time should I call her if I havent heard? I feel at this point it must be bad news because good news would have been delievered early whereas bad news is a phone call you put off making. I am trying to stay positive.

Did you get it?

Thank you! I was in panick mode. I called! They are still trying to "work out" a contingency plan. But she was very positive & said they may offer me an alternative position (that pays half, lol) in the meantime until my paperwork clears. :) But it is something!

Well sitting here totally dissapointed. Since paperwork didnt clear in time, I was offered an alternate job until the next training group starts. (8 months from now) and was told I would have a guaranteed spot in the next start group. The HR lady said "100% guranteed spot" at least ten times during our conversation. Now the interim job they are offering me is the same exact position I currently hold, but 6 dollars an hour less than I currently make which is also 15 dollars an hour less than what I interviewed for and was initially offered. The red flags started going off in my head and I got a little aprehensive about waiting 8 months with such a huge paycut. I asked for the "guaranteed" spot in writing as part of the job offer and suddenly my "100% guaranteed spot" is not EXACTLY guranteed. Now she tells me I would have to repeat the interview process again to get into the next group, but it is "highly probable" that I would get it. So I am going to have to decline. I am glad my BS radar is still working . Back to the drawing board. :( I am so dissapointed because I ahd an offer for this start group, if the paperwork cleared I would have the job I really want. Instead I am getting strung along.

I am really sorry to hear this ... but it does sound very fishy. Perhaps they offer the better job in order to get better applicants ... then tell them they only have the lesser job.

Well, think positively, you didn't jump right in, you have a job and wanted it in writing (smart!).
