I interviewed for a job, was told I was their top choice and would get an offer today if my paperwork went through the state in time. I was given 9 days to get this done, whereas paperwork takes 15-45 days to process normally. At the interview I was told not to worry about that until necessary. HR called me again early this week to let me know they are aware they didnt give me anough time for the paperwork and now it is a problem, I was told they are trying to make an alternative arrangement for me, because of the paperwork issue. I was told they were either going to delay the start date or have to offer the position to a local candidate.
She indicated that I was still the top choice and they didnt want to choose someone else, but that the manager did not want to delay the start date. She said she would let me know either way today.
I am literally sitting by the phone chomping at the bit. It is an out of state job and if I get it, I need to pack my car and drive 20 hours in the morning to be there for Monday to sign the contract.
At what time should I call her if I havent heard? I feel at this point it must be bad news because good news would have been delievered early whereas bad news is a phone call you put off making. I am trying to stay positive.

But it is something!
I am so dissapointed because I ahd an offer for this start group, if the paperwork cleared I would have the job I really want. Instead I am getting strung along.
