My DW and I where just talking about what time of year to visit. We originally decided on going the last full week of August. However I have been reading that it is very hot in August.

Would the beginning of June be better temperature wise.

We do not really want to take the kids out of school, but that could be an option.

Any suggestions would help.:goodvibes

Thanks

I personally love May/June...
From personal experience I can tell you that August/September is the worst time of year in that area for heat and humidity. (I lived in Coastal Georgia)..
Weather in May/June is definitally more bearable, and it's also not hurricane season...seemed like every single day of August thru October it rained...

Taking kids out of school is definitally a personal decision...I'm taking mine out of school for our upcoming trip, but I don't feel any guilt... My kids have excelllent grades, and luckily have not missed much school this year for illnesses or other emergencies. Their principals have given me their approvals and I'm confident my kids will be responsible to make up all of their work (preferrably before our vacation even starts)..

I also see May as a good time for a break in general...living up north, it's a great way to finally break out of the long cold winter... School activities and sports are all ending and I generally need a break by May... By the time August rolls around I'm ready to have the kids back in school for a few hours of the day... The reason I'm focusing on May more than June is because Southern states usually let schools out by June 1... crowds will be a little heavier in early June as opposed to early May...

Either way, it's all about whatever works for your family... You've come to the right place though...you're going to get lots of opinions...

(one last thing...if you're considering free dining...the deal I got for our May trip is the exact same deal that free dining would provide...they just give it a different title, but you're basically going to save the same amount...)

sorry so long winded...can't you tell I'm passionate about our trip?!?

Thank you for your advice.

After reading all these posts about other peoples trips, I can not wait to go.
We are only just beginning the planning part for next year.

have fun on your trip.

So far, we have traveled to WDW in January, August, October and December. I will say we enjoyed the weather the best in October. August is always hot and humid ... you just have to accept that. January was very cool and December was just okay. Have fun planning!

Every time of year has its pros and cons, so there really is no 'correct' answer.

Let's see, Late Dec/Jan/early Feb is typically pretty COLD, many rides closed, only one water par (and probably too cold for it) but inexpensive. Mid Feb, prices go up pretty high, as do the odds or warm weather. Typically Feb is pretty risky for cold - I'm talking 30's with wind - no fun for outdoor rides and esp water rides. March and April are best for the weather, but prices are high as are the crowds. Still the hours are long, and it is SO nice to see the lush greenery after a long winter in the north! Easter though is PACKED! President's week also pretty crowded.

In May the crowds moderate, as do the prices, but the temps start to climb. For some reason 85 in September doesn't feel warm, but 85 in May feels icky - esp if ther are crowds. Somtimes there are still crowds in May. Memorial day weekend busymost likely, I've never been then. But we once hit a hot week in early MAy. I didn't like it.

June gets too hot, IMO, and teh crowds build over the month. The rates go up again too.

July - over the fourth is PACKED! but the fireworks are cool. Don't expect to move in MK that night though - many locals come out. AS the month progresses, crowds diminish, but the heat is stifling. prices are still high.

August brings lower prices (after the 8th, I think) but also hurricane seasons. I'm not positive about weather in July, but inaugust, if you don't get full hurricanes - you at least get LOTS of rain. It's rainy season in the TROPICS. Also big thunderstorms. Still, the water rides are great when it's hot...the crowds, not so much.

August into September also brings free dining. If you go then, this is probably the best deal going - except that the restaurants WILL all get booked up. As the kids go back to school, the crowds will diminish (Except those with preschoolers, esp Labor day Weekend) This year, you probably will HAVE to book all your dining at the 90 day mark or else. It used to be 180 days, and they used to not offer free dinign promo until within 180 days. September is still pretty hot and rainy, and hurricaney, but the temps start to diminsh as the month goes on. Also while places to eat are full - the ride lines are not bad. The park hours are very short though. Lots of toddlers as opposed to school aged kids. Many academically serious parents don't want to pull their kids from school in Spetember, nuff said.

October brings better weather (usually), slight price increases, the food and Wine Festival, some locals. A differnet tone is set at night in Epcot during F&W - when the WINE and BEER are emphsized. Lots of Halloween parties at MK in September and October, so no late nights at MK. :(

November brings cooler waether, the holiday is busy, but eh rest of the month is reasonably priced. Early December is uncrowded. Holiday decor goes up in November now. It is pretty, but not a good choice for a first trip to WDW. - esp. in NOVMBER when it seems odd.

December is fun, but cold. Early inthe month is cheap, late is the most expensive time of year! And the most crowded! (up through New year's.)

Generally, vacation weeks are busiest, most expensive, but have lngest hours to compensate - sort of. Less expensive times of year, have lower crowds, short hours, bad weather. so it's kind of a toss up.

One idea that can be good - is to go during a lesser holiday week. Say Memorial day, Columbus day. You'll get some crowds, and the kids will miss some school - but not a whole week. Like the day of Thanksgiving is brutal - bu tthe week after...the crowds diminish as the week goes on.

Look up Disney's 'pricing seasons.' To ge tmore info. The price difference between high and low seasons is very dramatic! a Standard moderate room on rack rates can go from $149 - $209 plus 12.5% tax each night. The Poly Lagoon view goes from $460 to $705 plus tax per night!

Sometimes though the dicounts offered offset some of the price hikes - SOMETIMES.

Personally, given your two choices, I wouldn't pick either - unless you are from the south. Then it's a major toss up: crowds, heat, high prices vs. hurricanes, rain, heat. If you are thinking this year, I'd strongly suggest October, or early November. Maybe Columbus Day Weekend.

So far this year, crowds at WDW seem to be holding pretty steady compared to the last few years, BTW.

I don't think you give Feburary a fair shot here :goodvibes

We love going the first week of February. True it can be cold but it also can be beautiful. And typically it is much less crowded than most other times of the year. Last year it was in the 80's every day. Two year before that it was anywhere from high 50's to low 70's.

We used to go during the summer months or at easter. Now we take our kids out of school and go when it less busy. I feel we get much more for our money.

Have fun

Welcome!!
As a kid we went over spring break-total disaster!! Lots of people, super long lines, June, still super crowded and hot, and the end of July---unbearably humid!! I am a Texas girl, and I know hot and humid. I hate it!!! We don't take our family over summer because it's just as humid there as it is at home--we want to escape it!! Plus the price and crowds wouldn't be worth it for us. Now, if you really want to go in Sept/early Oct and get free dining , the trade off of weather/$$$$ may be just the ticket.
My hubby & I have taken the kids in May, gettin' warm!! but parks are still doable. Oct--still hot, but the Halloween stuff is sooooo fun--letting the kids Trick or Treat at Disney is a great memory! I loved the parade!! November-still warm enough to swim without freezing to death when you get out. If you wait til after T-Day, you drop to value season and it' s quite a difference $$$ wise. Dec is great if you go before the weekend everyone gets out for Christmas holidays. We were there one year around the 15th and by the 18th it was getting pretty jammed. January--after MLK weekend is awesome too!!! You miss the Christmas stuff, but the crowds are generally slower. The weather is a bit dicey--just keep checking before you leave!! Our favorite is Dec and Jan.
We have noticed crowd increase in Dec and Jan, but it's still manageable. One thing lots of people do that we dont, is get there at rope drop. We could do it, but we are just go, go, go, once we get there so we sleep in most mornings. If you could take your kids out of school, you won't regret it. I would do Oct for the halloween party, the first 2 weeks of Dec, cooler and Christmas, or Jan just for the value season in itself and no holidays.

I am sure you are gonna get tons of opinions!!! That's just what works for us. Whatever you decide, you are gonna love it!!!

We like to go the 1st week in October. We live in Idaho and the teachers have in service the first Thursday and Friday of October. The weather is still warm enough to enjoy the water parks but not unbearable and the kids only miss three days of school!:thumbsup2

We've been in June, July and August. I've also gone in April-May. Our AUg trip was very hot. July last year rained a ton...not that one hour rain but all day rains. It was cool and didn't even get really humid. We even ended up purchasing umbrellas one day because we couldn't move without them!
I recall June being hot too but I want it hot on my vacation to swim and go to the water parks as well as the Disney parks. I'm from PA and after winter I really look forward to the summer heat! Doesn't bother me.

Yes I agree with you Sherabby, I am from PA to and after a cold winter (working outside as a roofer) I want and am ready for a HOT vacation.

My family went last year at the end of September, and we enjoyed it so much that we are returning at the same time this year. Here are the main reasons we like going this time of year:

- It's still hot without being uncomfortable (lower to mid 80's)

- It's not as crowded as most kids are in school (we pull my daughter out for a few days...but at an early school age this isn't so bad)

- Epcot's Food and Wine Festival begins at the end of Sept (9/25 this year). We happened to be there for the soft openng last year (the night before it started). It was less busy and less crazy that night than the next day. It's a neat experience and we enjoy it.

- Mickey's Not So Scary Halloween Party begins in September. It's a separate-ticket event at the Magic Kingdom, so it does close early those evenings (7 pm, i think). We attended the party last year and are going again this year. We had a wonderful time. The kids get to trick-or-treat in the MK, plus the rides are much less crowded (we got to walk up on many of them), there are little dance parties, a castle stage show featuring the villians, a fantastic special fireworks presentation, and an awesome Boo to You Halloween parade. We got to see a lot of characters that you don't always see as much in the parks, and it was neat to see all the kids (and A LOT of adults) dressed up in their costumes. I highly recommend going to the party if you have the opportunity - it's a lot of fun!

That being said, I have to agree with an earlier post. With the free dining promotion, you pretty much HAVE to have ADRs for table-service meals. Last year we decided not to make ADRs for two nights of our trip so we could just kind of "go with the flow" and eat at whatever park we happened to be in when we hungry. Mistake. Both nights we had waits of over 90 minutes.

Overall though, I highly recommend going at the end of September - mid October. I hope you have a great time planning your vacation!!

Nothing better than October or early-to-mid-November! Weather if fabulous and the crowds are down. We are, however, going the last week of September this year for free dining. popcorn:: Hope for the best!!:rolleyes1
