What time is luggage delivered to staterooms?

Just wondering. We are about 2 1/2 weeks from our first cruise, and I was wondering is the luggage delivered in time to change for dinner? Or do I need to pack clothes for dinner in our day bag?

Thanks,

Our personal experience over 11 cruises with DCL is that our bags have always been by our door before the safety drill.
Most times we are all unpacked with everything put away in its place.
I have read people having to wait longer so I can't say if its luck or where our room is located, we always pick a midship room (5B).

Ours has always arrived after the safety drill, like between 4:30-5:30 range. And it doesn't always all arrive at once. We have lots of suitcases (3 daughters) and sometimes a few show up, then about 30 mins a few more, etc.

We have been on 6 cruises with DCL and the luggage has always arrived before the drill with enough time to put stuff away and get dressed for dinner. Have a wonderful cruise!

I always pack anything I need that first day in my carry on. My luggage showed up by the time I got back to my stateroom after the sail away party, but there was a bag next to mine that wasn't mine. I thought it belonged to the next stateroom over. When it was still sitting there by the time I got back to my room after the 6:15 show, I checked the tag and it belonged to a stateroom a long ways away from mine. If the owners of that bag had something in it they needed for early dinner, they definitely didn't get their bag in time.

We have had bags arrive late, in one instance quite late. Usually they're all at your stateroom before 5, but delays can occur. If you want to wear something special to dinner the first night, the safest option would be to put it in your day bag. Alternatively, just assume the bags will arrive and if they don't, go to dinner in whatever you arrived on the ship in. Pretty much anything you could wear onto a cruise ship is appropriate for the first night's dinner, and the vast majority of people don't really change.

Have a great trip!

I have learned to "cross pack" -- not put everything in one piece of luggage. Most times, we've had our luggage arrive before the drill, but several times it's been later and/or has been delivered piecemeal. On our NY-Canada cruise, they delivered everyone's but mine. We were passing under the Verrazano Narrows bridge, and I was just resigning myself to having NO luggage, when it got delivered (after 6). Thankfully, we usually have late dining.

Our 2nd cruise my bag didn't arrive until after 9 pm. That was back when jeans & shorts were not acceptable in the MDRs. I was uncomfortable walking into the MDR wearing jeans, but once seated no one could tell. We always dress up for dinner. Since that happened I pack a dinner outfit for each of us in our carry on bag. It hasn't happened again, but I preferred being prepared...especially the cruise we had Palo reservations the first night.

Most bags arrive during the afternoon. However like LB we once had a large bag get to the cabin after supper.

Bags get rough handling and some times the tags get accidentally ripped off. Then guest services has to check the permanent luggage tag and figure out which stateroom to send it to. A sis-in-law's bag was missing for 3 days, but she kept checking and it eventually turned up.

Thanks all for the info. We're on 2nd dining so I think I will be fine. I was just curious. We are definitely getting excited for our first cruise!

Also, most cruise lines are a bit more lenient the first night. I've read of one that is apparently cracking down a bit but understands the first night that luggage may not be there yet and will allow it but with a reminder for the future nights.

(Not that DCL isn't lenient anyway...)

We went last week on the Fantasy and our luggage was at our room around 3 pm. There wasn't much out in the hall and they were putting it out as fast as they could. They did a great job though.
The last night we put ours out about 9 pm and they were out there gathering it as people put it out so ours was taken immediately. I don't like the thoughts of it just sitting out there.

If you are second seating you should be fine. I've had bags arrive at all times, from about 3pm onward, but only once or twice were we missing a bag before we left for dinner (we've always been main dining).

On our 1st cruise there was a suspicious package at the port and they shut down boarding for 4 hours while it got straightened out. Luckily, we had already gotten on the ship, but there was only a couple hundred of us that had. We got a late start, sail away party had to be postponed until the next day, and the luggage, obviously, didn't make it by 1st seating. That's been the only time it hasn't. Last month we did find a suitcase of ours many doors down on our way to the room, so we grabbed it ourselves. Just be on the lookout, just in case one gets put in the wrong spot.

I don't think you need to make any special packing accommodations unless you personally want to make sure you are in something specific for dinner. Should your bags be late, get lost, etc. what you have on (for the most part) will be fine for dinner.

Now, if you plan on swimming and want to ensure you have access to fresh dry clothes and bathroom essentials, then yes I would advise packing it in your carry on so that you can ensure with certainty you have it before dinner.

We (my wife) forgot to pack my kids swimsuit for carry on during our last cruise even though I had mine. My daughter was a little upset and wanted to go to the pool once we got into our stateroom and not even 5 minutes later our luggage was delivered. That was around 2pm. I don't know if there is any correlation to when you arrive at Port and when your luggage arrives in your room (in past cruises I didn't notice) but on this cruise we had a 10:30 PAT (got there around 9:50) and had a #2 Boarding Group.
