-43.5 degrees F, that .5 counts. Schools are open, buses are running and there was no way I was going to make my kids walk to school. So I did something that I never do, I drove DS13 2 miles to his school at 8am, and DD10 1.5miles to her school at 9am. Both times the radio was talking about pollution, but who cares about pollution or wasting gas when it's this cold.

C (and I just set my heat for 2degrees higher then normal, I'm frozen.)

I'm from Ottawa too! I guess I was out by the .5.

I drove my girls to school also and prayed the whole time that I wouldn't run out of gas because I'm on empty and wasn't stopping to fill it. The red light came on when I pulled into the driveway - whew.

I'm also on empty LOL but it is way to cold to fuel up.

Wow....-43 degrees, that makes my -18 sound balmy!!! You would have thought the schools would have closed for the day with the temps that cold! I would never let my daughter stand at a bus stop in that kind of extreme cold!

Stay warm guys!

:rotfl2: :rotfl2:

Close the schools for cold temperatures??? NOT IN CANADA.

They do make the kids stay inside though.

My car said it was -1 when I drove DS to school at 8am..but with the wind...not sure how far below zero we are!! We, also, have no trees to protect us from the wind (my devolpment is in an old sand pit).

They closed the schools in Massachusetts a few years ago for a couple days because of extreme cold.

Kids can't go outside for recess if it's less than I think 25 degrees outside, so my DD will be staying inside today!

Yep and the fact that I was wearing my pajamas :rotfl2:

At least I was dressed, okay so it was yesterday's jeans off the floor and I would scare people if I took my hat off. Is it any warmer out there yet? I am suppose to go to a fabric shop off Bank street and there is no way I can make it that far without putting fuel in. I'm going to try to make it as far as the drive through bank machine then the nearest full serve station. I want the cash so I don't have to get out and pay with my debit card. Don't worry I will make sure I have enough to give the poor guy a tip :)

Hi, can I play?

It's 10:18 and its 12 degrees. I just retired this month so I don't have to go out if I don't want to!!! :p

I still have my hat on!!!!!!! :rotfl2: (We heat with wood and it's a little chilly in the house)

Why go today? Go tomorrow. I am not setting foot outside again today - unless DH doesn't get home in time to pick the kids up.

I can't remember them ever closing for cold. We use to live in Northern Alberta and it would get to -50. The funny thing was that I went one winter for months, not realizing that my van's heater was broken. We were so use to it taking longer to heat up then it did to drive somewhere that it wasn't until we did a 3.5 hr trip in Feb that we figured out something was wrong, and by looking back we figured it was November that we had last felt heat coming out of the vents.

My kids wouldn't mind waiting for a bus but we live too close for DS to qualify. DD (and DS last year when he was in elementary school) walked for half a year after moving here before the school board decided that they were eligble, by that time they prefered walking. The choice is to always walk or always take the bus.
