What time does the Boardwalk area come alive at night?

I am planning on making a reservation somewhere at Boardwalk/Beach Club/Epcot area and I'd like to know when the things like the entertainers and carnival type games open in the evening so I can time my ADR so we can stroll around after we eat. We will have a baby and an 11 year old with us so we won't be doing Jellyrolls or anything more on the adult fun side- just want to check out the few things on the Boardwalk. Thank you!

I read somewhere the Boardwalk area was pretty dead. Is this true? Is it worth going?
