What things scared your kids?

Don't recall seeing this one (sorry if its a repeat), but I thought it might be nice to have a comprehensive list of things children have found scary, and "why".

I'll start with my own DD6

Fantasmic (horrifying). She hasn't cried that hard since the dog died

It's Tough To Be A Bug - Hopper was creepy. She liked the rest, and wouldn't rule out doing this when she's older

Indiana Jones Stunt Spectacular - Scary/creepy music. She wanted out

Seeing Darth Vader around DHS - he's creepy :rotfl:

We skipped Haunted Mansion for obvious reasons :)

The only truley frightening horrific thing that scares the person the most in our family ( that would be dh) is the bill at the end of vacation.

When we took DD for the first time when she was 4, she was scared of:
Mickey's Philharmagic
Dreams Come True stage show (specifically when Maleficent comes out and there's "fire" on stage)
Fireworks (don't get me started)
JII - she hated getting sprayed
Nemo

Pretty much anything that was either in the dark or loud. We REALLY toned down our trip after that. However, this is the same girl that, this past November, went on EVERY SINGLE roller coaster (except EE - hadn't worked up to that yet - it was our first day). So she's over it. Still haven't done "scary" things yet, like HM, Bug's Life, Stitch etc - pretty sure she will hate those.

Of my current 4 year olds, one loves the fast rides and one is still very scared of them. We made him do TT and Barnstormer once, each, but he doesn't want to go on again. Again, we will steer clear of the "scary" stuff - not worth risking irreparable damage.

I STILL remember being scared of Fantasmic from when I was little! I also remember being scared of when the gangster comes out in the Great Movie Ride.

DD age 5 only got scared on ToT, and only by the drops, not by anything on the ride. DS age 3 was too short to ride EE, but asked to watch the ride video on YouTube and was scared by the Yeti. He was also really scared by the stretching room at HM, but not on the ride itself. He rode it twice and just held on to me and closed his eyes during the stretching room both times.

Until I was 9/10 I was horrified of Tough to be a Bug, Pirates and Haunted Mansion. I still have never sat completely through Tough to be a Bug :lmao: Oh well! HM and POTC are now two of my favorite/can't miss rides!

We were trying to avoid any scary surprises during our trip with nephew age 5 so we kinda told him about each ride we were going to go on so he knew what to expect...however we forgot to mention that Pirates has that small dark drop...big mistake. From that ride on every single ride with a dark part terrified him and he felt betrayed that we didn't tell him.

Also I'm not a child but Dinosaur always scares me. I go on it every time and about half way in I'm just mad at myself for doing it.

T-Rex restaurant. That's about it.

I ate at T-Rex last trip and watching some of the little kids placed under moving Dinosaurs was interesting. We didn't see anyone get too scared but one little boy was certainly a little nervous/intrigued.

I HATE things jumping out on me so I second that! Always ride Dinosaur and just close my eyes for the end :thumbsup2

7 and 5 year old daughters were both terrified of Tower of Terror, but only by everything leading up to the shaft. Once they started going up and down they liked that part. But the pre-show and the portion of the ride before the drop shaft will probably prevent them from riding again for awhile.

The 7 y.o. was scared on Mission Space, but mostly due to loud noise and enclosed space. The 5 y.o. loves it and it is her favorite ride.

The 7 y.o. didn't like Rock 'n Rollercoaster due to the excessively loud noise.

The 7 y.o. is a little scared of Disco Yeti, but still likes to ride Expedition Everest. The 5 y.o. was freaked out by the whole ride and refuses to go anywhere near it.

Both were terrified of the Alien sequence in Great Movie Ride and when the witch pops up in the Wizard of Oz scene.

Knowing my kids, they would be freaked out by It's Tough to Be a Bug, Dinosaur, Fanstasmic, and Stitch. So we haven't tried any of those (not that I'm a fan of any of them besides CTX).

I wouldn't say they were scared, but my kids HATED Dinosaur when we went in 2010. They were 14 and 12 at the time. It was way too loud for them.

Tower of Terror scared my then 4 year old (this September). But, she says that now that she's 5, she's going to "get over her fear and not be terrified" when we go in Feb. It wasn't the ride that scared her, it was everything about the beginning of the ride.

Oh, and my son (19 now but was 10 when we rode it), my husband, and I will all never go on Mission Space again. We went on the "mild" side too. We learned the true extent of my and my son's claustrophobia on that ride. I shutter now just thinking of it.

I was always terrified of the witch in the Snow White ride. I remember being 7 or 8 and still scared of her.

Dinosaur scared the bejeezus out of me, and I was an adult when I rode it! Now that I've been on it a few times it's not so bad, but the first 2 or 3 times it was. And I'll ride any roller coaster you put in front of me. But something about that ride just did it for me. Not enough to keep me from riding again, but enough to be going "holy ***" half the ride, and having to sit down and take a few breaths to get my heart back in my chest. :)

The Alien part in the Great Movie Ride was a little startling, but the first time I rode it I was in middle school, so I wasn't a "kid". And again, it didn't keep me from riding it again.

And this isn't Disney, but Kongfrontation at Universal terrified me for the longest time. How ironic that when I moved to Orlando right after high school, that's the first ride I was assigned to work.

I don't really startle or scare easily. I spent 5 years working Halloween Horror Nights at Universal, so haunted houses / scare zones like that don't even faze me. I tend to go thru them laughing at everyone else that's getting scared.

Well if you are going to change the thread to what scared you as a kid, when I was around 5 or 6 there was nothing at the Magic Kingdom that was scarier to me than bouncing down the train tracks towards the oncoming light to be killed by a train in Mr Toad's Wild Ride.

ANYTHING that has the witch from Snow White on it still causes me to fight off an anxiety attack (due to a traumatic incident as a child).

The cannon blast in Fantasmic!

The wallpaper with the eyes on it in HM.

The skinny dog in HM.

The "Dorian Grey" style pic in the lobby of HM.
