What the hell.. upgraded to a convertible..sooo excited

I hope you dont mind coming in on this a little but one thing is going round in my head. We have a full size 4 door with Alamo, what sort of prices have people been quoted/paid to get an upgrade to the next one up or something, i.e. a van or a premium. I fancy it as i have got a little cash in my pocket today and think i will change to bucks.

We upgraded at sanford and for $117 + Tax for two weeks got a massive Dodge Durango instead of an Intermediate door with Dollar. It was fantastic! the only problem was we had to play jigsaw with the laggage when we got back in our passat at gatwick.

Y'know, if you get there and can't fit everything in, you could probably ask to change right there in the lot...

We haven't rented a ton of cars, but I have switched cars after I got in one and it reeked of smoke. THey didn't have another one in the same size so they just upgraded me on the spot to a different, bigger vehicle and off I went.

I say, give it a try, they're lots of fun!

when we were at checkin at alamo in september the group of 4 Brits next to us had a convertible reserved.....the guy at the counter took one look at them and said, "let me check if we have something larger for you sir"....
of course in their case it was 4 adults, but the agent said there was no way they were going to fit..

but as another poster said, you can change right at the counter...they always have lots of cars available.....

personally, i'd never drive a convertible in Orlando, unless it's a hardtop convertible....what with all that lightning, i'd rather have a nice hard top over my head....

Been there, done that Quite scary actually...

We hired a Sebring convertible one year (end of September) and it was too hot really - even with the aircon turned up. The leather seats also got unbearably hot. Add to that the problem of luggage space (2 adults only, had to put one case on the back seat), and we've always gone for something bigger and more luxurious since. The Chrysler 300C is nice

Be careful. We were upgraded to a convertible. The guy at the counter said it would only be $5.00 more per day. When I turned in the car, the receipt said $226. I had to go back to the counter and get a $130 credit.

It was a great upgrade, $94 for four days for a convertible

bellis belle, surely you will check your luggage in at downtown disney so you are not taking it about with you all day and then you can enjoy the rest of the day assured your luggage is checkedin and your seats booked , so returning should not be as big a problem

The leather seats also got unbearably hot.

right.....leather seats are terrible if you're there in the summer...
we used to only rent luxury cars, which always came with leather..
the last few years we've rented minivans (e.g., chrysler voyager and similar)...
they typically don't come with leather...a vast improvement....trying to sit down on leather after a few hours of the car sitting in a very unshaded disney theme park parking lot is cruel and unusual punishment....(that is, if you're wearing shorts....which of course, in 97 degree heat, 99% humidity, you usually are).....

i wonder if hell could be that hot?

Ok here is what I would do:-

Arrange to pick your car up on the second day from an outlet closer to your hotel/villa.

When you arrive get a transfer to your hotel/villa by coach, taxi or even better a Stretch Limo, we have done this a couple of times once as a surprise for Becky and once for my Sis, BIL and Nephew, they loved it and it isn't taht expensive really. Plus you don't have to drive straight after your flight when you are tired.

The next day go pick your car up when you don't have your luggage.

On the return leg, go and do Downtown Disney check in with Virgin (so only a short trip fully loaded) and then you have the rest of the day not worrying about all your luggage.

Sorry but I think this is a waste of day 2. And we usually head out to Goodings when we arrive to stock up on a few bits then head over to DTD for something to eat before bed. Giving in to tiredness when you arrive rather than staying up until bed time local time is a sure way to make the jetlag worse.

i know that in the volvo, only the front seats are heated, not the back...

Most of the car hire places are right near Downtown Disney, so you basically get up the morning of day 2 and head straight over pick up the car and get on with your day.

We are normally too tired to do anything the night we arrive so not having the car doesn't matter. Also you get a free grocery stop with your limo transfer anyway.
