We have had our Virgin FF confimred and they gave us a free upgrade and for another £99 have upgraded to a convertible. Never had one before so hope we fit in the luggage. Not worried about arriving, its leaving I'm worried about. Anyhow I hope I have done the right thing. :Pinkbounc :cheer2: :bounce:

Luggage is a tight squeeze in a convertible! But lots of fun to drive :)

Don't forget a baseball cap, an elastic band to hold your hair, and lotsa sunscreen.

Convertibles are cool, but remember the tops of your hands, ears, and the base of your throat-they'll all get burned in a convertible!

so long as there are only 2 of you.. it will be great!!

I wouldnt have a convertable with kids. Those in the back get blown away!! :)

Plus I dont think you would fit the luggage in if you had more than two amall cases!

Of course forgot that. Thanks for the tip. The brochure says 2 medium cases and a small bag. It will be a mega sqeeze but worth it for a week :teeth:
EDIT: oh no just read your reply we have 2 kids as well. We will have the top up on m'way so just down when we are crusing to the parks and shops etc. The only problem will be getting to airport with the luggae, the rest of the time it will just be the 4 of us. Girls will have to have cases on their heads if needs be. LOL

As has been said before....use plenty of sunscreen. I used to have a convertable many years ago and found that a lot of the time I would drive around with the hood up in the summer. Made my mistake one day...drove for an hour to the south coast in the sun. I looked like a lepper when I got there!!! :sunny: :sunny: :sunny:

...and that was England, not Florida :umbrella:

Hi Nicky, trust me with 2 kids the girls WILL have the cases on their heads, maybe you can buy a little tow truck at the back for your luggage :)

OOOppps. Sounds like have made a big mistake. Do you think I should cancel :sad2:  :sad1: :headache: :worried:

It may be a squeeze!

When I said

I had not realised you had passengers in the back :)

We also booked a convertible for our trip coming up. (10/28/05) and we don't care if we have to pile the luggage on top of our 2 kids! This is our FIRST and possibly ONLY trip to Disney and we plan to enjoy it to the fullest!

We'll just have to pack light!

We haven't told the kids that we booked a convertible, or that a limo is taking us from our house to the airport! We thought they'd like a couple of surprises :goodvibes

ooo, not so sure Nicky, the only problems you will have are driving from and to the airport. I have seen a convertible boot though and they are pretty small, no chance for us as we take and bring back the kitchen sink.

You won't be doing much shopping will you? ;)

LOL. We do pack extremely light but take half of America home with us!!!
Have just talked to DH and we will review at airport. If its looking hopeless at least we can go big again. We just really fancied a bit of luxury. ;)

My advice for hiring a convertible - make sure you know how the roof works BEFORE you leave the airport. We hired one on our first trip. Left the airport feeling very grand. Then it started to rain while we on the toll road and, you've guessed it, we didn't have a clue how to get the blooming roof up! We laugh about it now, but at the time, first time in Florida, driving on the other side of the road. We were panic stricken!!! :rotfl2:

I have had convertable both times I have been to Florida.

Both times there were 2 passengers.

The first time with 2 medium & 1 small case, The small case went on the back seat. The second time DF & I both had 2 LARGE cases and they both fit in the boot just fine.

I hope you dont mind coming in on this a little but one thing is going round in my head. We have a full size 4 door with Alamo, what sort of prices have people been quoted/paid to get an upgrade to the next one up or something, i.e. a van or a premium. I fancy it as i have got a little cash in my pocket today and think i will change to bucks. :smooth:

I have a convertible here and I really do think you'll struggle - not for seats but for luggage space. And when we were there last week we'd have died in the heat, but as you're a couple of weeks down the line it might be a bit cooler.

Sorry to sound negative but with 4 of you I think you may have to send the luggage by cab.

Rob, I think to upgrade to a people carrier is about $14.99 a day - they always have some sort of offers on though.
I don't honestly think they have as many F4 vehicles as the PCs so they tend to offer upgrades regularly.
Having said that we always rent with Dollar.

We normally get a PC but with the spirraling costs of fly-drives and we are going for 3 weeks next August we wanted to cut back a bit and have too gone for an F4.

I wouldn't cancel.

The only time that you will need the kids and all the luggage is the trip to the airport. One of you (and possibly 1 child) simply gets a taxi or similar with some (read most) of the luggage.

Its very interesting, the biggest market for convertables in Europe is the Uk followed by Germany.
In the hot medditeranian countries, they do not buy convertables, as its too hot to drive with the top down.
Only cold northern lands buy them for the few days its warm enough (but not too hot) to use them.
