what the heck is a Tervis Tumbler?

Our entire faculty/staff got one at our opening meeting this year as a welcome back gift. I had never heard of them, but in a week have really fallen in love with it. Because of my allergies, I keep a glass of water on my desk during the day. In the past, I had to keep a coaster under my cup, but haven't with this one. It also keeps my water cold. Like someone else said, I just replace the water, not the ice.

I am looking at getting a Tervis tumbler. Can anyone tell me if the straw lid is any good?

I currently have a knock off and like it but have a cat who likes to sleep on my end table where I put my cup. She is an older cat and so it gets knocked off the table. Nothing like cleaning up sweet tea out of a rug. :( The lid on these has to be set just right to get a proper seal. But sometimes even then it comes off.

I am looking for a cup that would be as my DH calls it "Moo Proof" (nickname for our cat).

Any help or reviews on the straw lid for the Tervis tumbler would be appreciated.

I call them "Florida Sippy Cups". They're the best-no getting cloudy if you put them on the top shelf of the dishwasher.Love our tumblers!

We now have 6 of them................got 4 at Bed, Bath and Beyond with the 20% off coupon. The other two from the website since I wanted specific Disney ones. Plan on getting a few more Disney resort ones when we go.

I love them! Condensation is a bit thing. I love there isn't any.
They keep things cold so much longer. Ice lasts all day.
I take ice water in the car with me shopping, go in a store come back to the car (where I left it) and it still has ice. Lasts several hours...........and that is a big thing in the AZ heat.

Sitting here drinking from my Tervis 24 oz. University of Kentucky national championship tumbler right now!

What I like about it:

--Dual-walled for excellent insulation;
--Good for hot or cold drinks;
--Dishwasher safe;
--Design is printed in between the 2 walls so it doesn't come off over time;
--Lifetime warranty.

It's not cheap, but I'm willing to pay a premium price for a truly premium product. IMHO this is one.

we love them here. We each have our own. I bought them to take with us on drive to disney. We just bought gateraide and water in big containers and refilled them when needed. hubby loves that he can have either his hot coffee or his iced coffee/tea. We have the straw lids and while they are not 100 % spillproof, I have spilled it and only gotten a few drops on the carpet..

I also gave them as gifts for christmas last year. they had an online sale and I got 10 personalized mugs for under $100

their headquarters are right around the corner from me!! love these things, have all gator ones......!!

We use them at home and everyone has their own themed glasses. That way, we aren't grabbing new glasses everytime someone wants a drink because nobody remembers which glass is theirs. I like the feel (not flimsy), the lifetime warranty, the look, made in the USA, and the lids, but I have to say I do not have anywhere near the luck that others have of keeping ice in it for hours on end.

If I fill it with ice and water, the ice dissolves almost as quickly as it does with a regular glass, although the water remains cold for quite awhile.

Overall, I am very pleased with them.

A friend gave me two, said everyone 'needed' them. They are bulky, take up too much room in the dishwasher, don't hold enough liquid IF the big deal is being insulated-I drink a lot of water and don't want to stop what I'm doing to refill. After handwashing several times to get them off my counter, I packed them away. OH-nightmare trying to find space in the cabinets. Two took up soooo much space, I can not imagine have six or eight.

I too use mine everyday, I love that it doesn't sweat all over the counter, and that my ice lasts for hours and that it's made in America. It's a wonderful product, worth every penny in my opinion. :thumbsup2

The straw lid doesn't "seal" so I wouldn't recommend it for that. While the lid is tight and probably wouldn't come off if it was knocked off the liquid will come out from the straw hole and the straw. One of the non straw lids that has a sliding cover might work better but I wouldn't trust it not to leak out.

For your situation I would recommend a Bubba Keg (Walmart has them and they are cheap, like under $10). You can't dishwash them but they keep ice cold all night and have a really tight fitting lid and a well sealed flip top http://www.shopbubba.com/p-206-bubba-20-oz-mug-classic-navy-blue.aspx It is also very stable so less likely to fall over. The Tervis Tumblers are narrow at the bottom and wide at the top so easier to tip over. Believe me- I have 2 cats-- one that loves to intentionally push glasses off of the table!

But for an even better no leak solution I love this water bottle from Thermos http://www.thermos.com/products/vacuum-insulated-18-oz-gray-hydration-bottle.aspx I get mine from Kmart for about $20. The mouth is wide enough for any ice cubes and to clean, the lid seals and has a lock but pops open easily . I carry mine everywhere and it has been dropped all sorts of places without a drop spilled (as long as I remember to lock the lid!)

I like them because they don't sweat. I used to use freezer mugs, but they sweat horribly. I actually found that the Tervis cups kept water colder longer than the freezer mug. I'm trying to make myself drink more water, but it has to be ice cold or I won't do it.

My mom has bunches of them and loves them. I personally don't get the hype. My moms have all cracked over the years, and while they do offer a lifetime guarantee (which is great), my mom never seems to take the time to mail them in. Plus, while it's true they don't sweat, I don't find that they do a good job of keeping things hot or cold.

The drinking product I'm nuts about is the Hydroflask. They recommended it on the DIS Unplugged podcast, and boy were they right! It keeps things ICE cold for 24 hours and doesn't sweat either. Of course it's not a glass, but it's a great product.

She can take them to Bed Bath and Beyond and they will exchange them for her.

I like the straw lids, but not the Tervis brand straws. They get gunky and nasty in my dishwasher :( I hang onto straws from CFA or Sonic, and they fit just fine.

I love my Tervis-es. :) I've had some for several years that get daily use & they look as good as new. I only use mine for cold drinks. No idea if that has anything to do with anything or not. LOL

We have a few of those in the cabinet. I really like them. They seem to do a good job of keeping your drink hot or cold. My only complaint is they are so expensive.

I have a designated one for coffee... it has the "Donut Shop" K-Cup logo on it. It fits right under my Keurig maker and it keeps the coffee at a good temp for the right amount of time. (actually I leave the lid off for a couple minutes to let it cool off a little bit first). I know they are hot/cold...but the one with the coffee logo, I only use for drinking coffee. I am just weird like that.

I don't really watch baseball, but I also have a New York Yankees one with Disney characters on it. I use that for cold drinks.

OMGOSH I am a tervis fan. I have a set of 8 clear 16 oz tumblers for every day casual dining , going to get set of smaller size "highball" size , we are bourbon drinkers in cold weather , so I think this will be nice for outside around fire pit.

I have several of the big ones for water in car , work, tailgating etc. I love that I can go in store in summer and come back and still have ice in water !

has anyone bought these tumblers anywhere else besides bed, bath and beyond as mentioned...?? i am looking to buy in a store like target , walmart ... etc.....

I love my Tervis!!! Keeps things cold/hot better than a cup/mug. Love that is doesn't sweat. I keep mine at work. Coffee in the morning, water in the afternoon.

BUT, when I bought this, I was looking for something insulated to use in my motorcycle cup holder. Unfortunately, the top diameter is too large for it to fit securely. So then I was off to find something else.

I just happened upon a thread here on the DIS (imagine that;)) about Hydro Flasks. I ordered one. Fits perfectly.

I put it's insulating qualities to the test. I filled it with ice cubes at 6:15 in the morning and left for work. I kept it in my car all day. It was about 95 degrees out that day, so imagine how hot it was in my car that has no shade. At around 6 pm I get home from work and open the bottle. Still 3/4 full of ice. Put the lid on. Next morning still about 1/3 full of ice. Come home from work. No ice, but the melted water was ice cold!!

OP, if you are looking for something that keeps things cold/hot for shorter periods of time, Tervis will work fine. But if you want something that does an absolutely superior job of insulating, I would recommend the Hydro Flask. No, it doesn't come with cutesy designs (I did a custom wrap on my Tervis), but it gets the job done. They also have a couple different styles of tops; flip lid, sports cap.
