We are coming next month with 2 young children and were wondering what your recommendations would be for the best sunblock to protect them from the blazing Florida sun. I know I want 50 SPF but want brands are the best? Any tips or advice would be so greatly appreciated. TIA!!!

i have seen spf 70's online, but had a whale of a time finding them at wall mart. I think, without actual experience, that the aveeno spf 70 spray on is best. I am leaning toward the spray on's..right now we have 2 bottles of noad lotion. Ill probly pick up some spray on, too..

I would have to recommend Blue Lizard..there are a few different types, sensitive, baby, regular, sport... It is a great sunscreen, chemical free and in the few years we have been using it, we haven't had any sunburn..even in WDW in August!!

I second the spray on , so much easier. As far as brand, I really am not sure.

I use the Neutrogena cool mist spray, SPF 70 with helioplex on the kids. Last year we used the 45 but the derm recommended the 70 with helioplex. They are very fair, and we haven't had any issues with burning. I found it at walgreens and target this spring. Love it! Not greasy or messy, doesn't smell too strong and easy to apply. Easy enough that I can get the back of DH's neck before he can run away!
If you are bringing your own stroller, I would also reccomend a ray shade, or double ray shade. It provides so much more coverage and has it's own SPF, I just cant remember what.
Have fun!!!

Another vote for the Aveeno and Neutrogena sprays, SPF 70. I stock up on both, and this time of year they're always on sale at CVS and/or Walgreens. I've got about a half dozen cans stashed in the linen closet, and 2 cans in the Disney bag. You pay more for the spray, but I've got 2 monkeys to cover before getting out the door and usually don't have time for a wrestling match.

Oh....stop laughing at the Disney bag....you know you have one. Or now you're thinking it's a good idea!!!

We use Blue Lizard or Aveeno for DD cause she has eczema. Works very well. We don't use the spray because (for whatever reason) it freaks DD out (this kid would ride Space Mountain over and over but is scared of sunscreen!). More important than the SPF is the "re-applying" thing. I had malignant melanoma that spread to my lymph nodes (I'm okay now, cancer-free for almost 6 years!) SOOO, here is my advice. Put on sunscreen in your hotel room BEFORE (you or) your child gets dressed. Then, when you arrive at the parks, apply a second coat in the exposed areas. Apply more if you go back to the room to go swimming. Also, if your children will actually keep them on their heads- put on hats. If they don't make sure that you put sunscreen on exposed parts of their head (for instance, if you have a little girl and her hair is parted and braided...make sure to put sunscreen on the part!) Okay, those are my tips.

I second this post! I just had a "severely atypical" mole removed so have been doing a lot of research. Reapplying is more important than the higher number. Make sure you get a sunscreen that says it covers the entire UV spectrum (UVA-UVB), and practice wearing hats now so they kids can get used to it. Sunglasses too if they will!

Yes this is in the baby section, perfect for diaper rash.

Actually it was recommended by first aid staff at magic kingdom to my friend a few years ago.

my kids swim naked in grandparent's pool in the blazing heat and have never ever ever even gotten a tan.

penaten is nice and thick and is entirely waterproof.

I am a mom of 2 little pastey-white kids (dad is white as paper) and using Penaten has been a life-saver, since I hardly ever reapply it and they have never been burned.

And it's great for infants in the sun because it's designed for babies.
