Not "regular" stuff like fear of public speaking or death...what strange fears do you have? I thought of this topic because I was realizing I have some pretty odd fears.
-crossing bridges, nomatter how small...never met anyone else with that fear
-cows
-corn that doesn't grow in straight rows (when I see it I just get shivers)
-the roots of plants (also gives me shivers)
And last but not least, the most irrational fear of all....
-dinosaurs...no I'm not kidding, whenever i have a nightmare it's usually about dinosaurs, which is ridiculous since I'm in absolutely no danger from dinosaurs and never will be. The dinosaur nightmares started after I saw Jurassic park the first time and they never went away...I very seldom have a nightmare without a dinosaur in it.
Anyone else have any strange fears?

The bottom of boats! I don't know why, but they freak me out terribly. Also, I get freaked out when I'm next to anything really large.. like standing next to an airplane or a semi truck.

I get really freaked out when I'm near (or in) tall buildings. Fireworks terrify me too. That's all I can think of right now. :)

I clicked out of this thread thinking all my fears were pretty much general phobias that much of the public suffers from but......as soon as I did, I thought of a weird one! LOL

I'm afraid of having my Achilles Tendon torn! When I was in HS, one of my teachers was a big Mardi Gras fan. He was telling us how some thieves down there wore razor blades strapped to the toes of their shoes. They would kick your Achilles Tendon to tear it and then, when you fell, they'd rob you. Ever since then, I can't even have someone touch the back of my ankle!!

I'm also terribly afraid of impalement. I can't find any reason for it but I'm absolutely horrified by the idea of having something stuck/stabbed in me! Particularly my eyes.

Oh, AND, I go to the tanning bed to help with my eczema/acne/depression (it really works!) and I'm always afraid of the glass breaking and me falling down into the bulbs and being stabbed by the glass and burned by the bulbs. Weird, I know. I have to take an anxiety pill to go

So, there ya go, I have weird fears after all LOL

I am afraid that at the exact moment my eyes close while I am sneezing, the car in front of me will slam on the brakes and I will crash.

I also hate when there is a big truck carrying pipes or logs. I can see that everything is strapped down but I am afraid that the one in the middle in going to come loose and impale me while I drive.

I guess one of the strangest fears I have is elevators, will not get in one. I get extreme anxiety when I have to drive through a tunnel. Going over big bridges freak me out a little too.

I'm scared to look at mirrors at night. I am convinced that I'm going to see my evil twin or something looking back at me.

1960's hearse style ambulances. I refuse to look at anything that has them in it including Ghostbusters. I will even hide if I think there might be one in a scene and will cover my ears if I hear their distinct siren.

The hulls of big ships. I'm OK with regular pleasure crafts, but I don't like cargo ships and I'm not super fond of Cruise ships. I freak out when I'm next to them. Oddly enough though I will go on military vessels unless they are painted black and red like cargo ships are (such as Coast Guard buoy tenders).

I am scared of the Wizard of Oz. I saw it one time late at night and haven't been able to watch it since.

I hate going under bridges. Scares the bejeezus out of me! I'm afraid we'll have an earthquake and it will fall on me.

I love medical shows, but I hate either white or those green/blue scrubs from the 60's, 70's and 80's. They creep me out.

I really am an odd little person. :confused3

Birds: like in a pet store, they scare me I don't care if they are in their cages. or the zoo aviary, OMG, the things I won't do for my DD, well now she is older, but when she was little I love birds. my friend who should have never been allowed to have any pets, had a baretta type bird a blank a too? she let that crazy thing out, but I cant blame the bird, cause he was trying to get away from her, but I was in the way.:rotfl:

Fish: Ok, I like to see fish in the aquarium, or if I am snorkeling, it's all good. but fishing, um no. seeing them wiggling around. one of my only fishing things was years ago, my DF took me and I caught a catfish:scared1:, I was young and he was coming after to me. so no fishing, I don't even want to see any shows with fishing.

not crazy about bridges myself especially if they have the drawbridge grates in them.

Stuffed animals...no, not the cute cuddly variety. The ones that taxidermists do. All my life they have freaked me out. I can't even go into Cabela's without having a panic attack. In restaurants that have them we always have to sit as far away from them as possible.

I HATE bridges. I have this irrational fear that I may swerve and drive off. If I must cross a bridge, I have to be in the center lane.

I also hate tunnels. Going into NYC sends me into sweats. The thought of all that water on top of me while I'm in there....

crossing bridges.....Just terrifies me! And I got another one....I used to be afraid of driving on the interstates....but as of last fall....drove 5 hours to TN with my DS and I made it just fine!!!!!

Elevators....I hold my breath until I get to my floor. And crowds, yes, crowds.....I tend to breathe a little funny when I get into close quarters.

I'm afraid of the dark.....always think something or someone is going to jump out at me!!! I have a night light in every room!

getting gas in the wintertime.....everytime I get shocked....I think the car will explode!

Buttons. I hate them. I don't know that I''m AFRAID of them but they really creep me out. Especially if it's a loose button... like one that has fallen off of a piece of clothing... that's the worst. I was always paranoid whenever my dad would make me a bowl of cereal with his work shirt on. it had buttons on it and I was certain one was going to fall in and I was going to eat it.

hair, thread, debris etc sticking to my wet feet. I HAVE to have a fresh towel just put down on the floor to get out of the shower. The thought of a piece of thread or hair or something sticking to my feet while they are wet makes me want to never ever leave the shower... or never get in it in the first place lol

Sharks. I can't watch them on TV. That movie Open Waters where those people get stranded during a scuba diving trip... horrifying. I had panic attacks while watching it lol the thought of EVER going scuba diving scares the ever loving stuff out of me. I can't do it. I'd love to because I'd love to see all that can be seen but the thought of seeing a shark... i'd have a heart attack and die right there.

I'm sure there are more lol

I don't like clowns. They have scared me ever since I read IT.

I'm terrified of wax museums. The eyes are so creepy!

Also, I'm afraid of shrimp, especially before they are cleaned. I can't even stand shrimp cocktail.. They look like gross bugs. I can eat them butterflied, breaded and fried, though, which I admit is strange.

Apples. I won't bite into any firm apples, just soft ones like Macintosh. I have to cut the others (including caramel apples, which I love) into slices before I eat them. I've always had a fear that I'll bite into an apple and it will rip my front teeth out. I finally mentioned that to my mother recently and she told me I actually lost my first tooth when I bit into an apple, so I guess that's where that came from.

I'm also really uncomfortable going up brick stairs, which is unfortunate since there are brick stairs leading into my house (and all the houses I visit on a regular basis, come to think of it). I'll go up them, but I always have this nagging feeling that I am going to trip and fall and my face will hit the steps and it will break all my teeth out. I have no idea why I worry about that; as far as I know I have never fallen down any brick stairs.

I forgot a couple fears I had until I saw people mention them lol. One person mentioned fish, I also think fish are gross and I get creeped out by them, but for that poster it was the way fish wiggle, and for me it is not the wiggling, what creeps me out is the huge bulgy eyes and the gills and the way their mouths gape open and closed. My other one I forgot to mention was those kind of stairs where there are the steps but the back is open...I don't know if I saw this in a scary movie or what but I always think a hand is going to reach through the back of the step and grab my ankle or something. I must have seen some scary movie where that happened.

OK, I have one I haven't seen yet...butterflies! Yes, butterflies.
I thought I would face my fear and go into a butterfly house one time...let's just say that wasn't such a good idea :sad2: I HAD to get out of there ASAP

I can not watch people that let butterflies land on them :scared1: I always think what a brave, but crazy person that is! lol

Along the lines of butterflies...moths freak me out too!
