Well as I was looking over pictures from my last trip in preparation for my trip in 4 days! (Have to see what I need to re-do!)

I loved this pic, until I opened it up full size and realized that my lens was filty when I took it:scared1: :scared1:

What would I do in Photoshop Elements 5 to clean it up?

Either uses the cloning tool or the healing brush. I have never used elements 5 so I'm not sure which one it has. Sample an area next to the spots and clone over the spot.

I have Photoshop but I don't know much, still learning, you can use the clone tool to remove the spots.

Are you sure that is on your lens and not your sensor?

That is the first thing I thought as well.

Update: EXIF says f/32, so I would almost guarantee it is sensor dust

I'll rephrase that. The dust is on your sensor, not your lens. You wouldn't see it if it were on the lens.

Thanks!

I won't have time to clean it before I leave. But when I get back I will look at cleaning the sensor.

There was a thread about that a few months back, I will have to find that.

Thank you all for your help!

Try to keep your aperture wider to keep this from showing in your shots. You did not need f/32 in that shot. I bet even f/8 would have given you the same results. Lenses are sharper around that spot anyway. I only resort to really small apertures when I am trying to get my shutter really slow or have a shot needing a really large DOF.

If you can't clean it before you leave, try to make sure that you don't use too small an aperture and you shouldn't really see it. f32 should be a worst case scenario I would guess and that is why you see so much in that picture.

Try keeping the aperture at about f16 or lower and you should be pretty much fine. There may be a few spots but it will be easier to clean them up in post processing.

Thank you. I am always learning!

Actually, if I remember correctly, F32 was a mistake that I noticed after I took the shot. But I really liked the colors and the clouds.

I truly appreciate the help!

You want to use the healing tool NOT the cloning tool. The healing tool will take into account the surrounding area color, lighting, and saturation making for a smoother fix than the clone tool. You should also denoise it a bit. Some of the grain is caused by the low light. You can also get more definition from the trees if you apply a high pass filter to a copied layer and choosing the blend mode of overlay. Keep your high pass low at around 2.5 to 4.

Thanks Sprectro#1 very helpful. I have a few of these dirty shots as well from my last trip. Didn't notice the dirty skies until recently. I'm going to use this method :thumbsup2
