What sort of traditions does each resort have?

I have heard that every Disney resort has a good luck tradition, something ceremonial for guests to do, to ensure good luck and/or a future return.

I know of a few of these traditions. Does anyone know of more? I would like to learn them all!

Here are the ones with which I am familiar:

At the Wilderness Lodge, guests can rub Humphrey Bear's nose for good luck. He is at the bottom of the totem pole, next to the Mercantile, in the lobby.

At the Polynesian Resort, guests can toss a penny in the ponds by the Great Ceremonial House's doors to ensure a future return.

At the Animal Kingdom Lodge, there are sculpted wooden panels on the wall as you exit the front of the lobby. A sign says to touch them for good luck.

I have heard that rubbing Ariel's tail would bring good luck, when travelling on the Disney Wonder.

And of course, there is always wishing on a star from any resort or theme park.

Are there other traditions that I do not know about? I want to learn them all!

Thanks :)

At POFQ we were each given a coin in one of the Mardi Gras colors to make a wish at the fountain in the lobby by the jester at the front door.

I love that! Thanks so much for posting. I am adding it to my list :)

My husband and I took our 3 y/o GS to WDW this past Feb and stayed at POFQ. My little grandson always looked for that man every day both leaving and returning at mid day. He was soooo nice. My GS made a bee line for him every time he saw him and he always got a coin and several times the man gave him stickers also. One night we were coming back late and as we walked toward the front doors, my GS looked around, realized he was not there, and said, "Where's my man?" We explained that it was either too late or he wasn't working that evening. My GS looked up at us so pitiful and said, "But he knew I was coming back. I told him this morning that I'd see him tonight. He wouldn't leave without telling me. He's my friend.":rotfl:

Every year, Todd, the bartender at the lounge at POR has given me a hair clip of one of the characters that glows, to "find my way home."

That is so sweet! Did you take any pictures of the cast member? I would put that story in your GS's baby book! What a cutie!

Is it one of the Tinker Bell lights? I have seen those clipped onto drinks. That's a cool treat! What a nice thing for him to do!

Yes, it was. Here is the backstory. Be prepared to grab a tissue.

Two years I did a solo trip. I go out to eat at a local bar every night, so I am very used to hanging out at the lounge. I always get to know my bartender and I tip well. I order iced tea and chardonnay; odd combo, but it keeps me hydrated. And the end of a wonderful week, Todd had a gift for me - Tinkerbell, because I was wearing the Tink lanyard. Picture a 50 year old woman burst into tears; it was a lovely gesture.

Fast forward one year. My first night at the lounge and I said, hi, Todd, I am Dawn. Iced tea and chardonnay. He burst into laughter and said you are the lady I made cry when I gave her Tink. OMG. CM's really do remember.

The last night he gave me Buzz Lightyear, "so I would always find my way home." My little bottom lip quivered but I was determined not to cry.

Do not ever think a CM cannot make an impact on your trip; it is all pixie dust.

What a nice story... But why did you cry when he gave you a Tinkerbell? Were you just surprised and touched? How sweet that the bartender remembered you. :) Agree with what you said.. about "CM can make an impact on your trip." Thanks for sharing your story. Hopefully you will meet Todd again in your future stay.

Overwhelmed, and it was my last night, so you do get sort of weepy. You know it is another year before you are coming back.

Quite frankly, I cry going under the WDW sign on the ME bus when I arrive.

Me too!! I also get teary eyed when I first step foot in the Magic Kingdom after rope drop. I look down Main Street with hardly anyone there, see the sun shining on the castle, take a big whiff of the smell of the MK, look at my son, and am thankful that we got to come back to this magical place again!! :wizard:

I love that you do that, it speaks volumes about the type of person you are imo. I love reading your posts too, you intrigue me (in a good way ;) )

Hope you 'find your way home' soon :)

Me, too! And during the fireworks, too, especially Illuminations and Wishes!

Heck, I even get teary eyed on the Magical Express. I board the bus and goose bumps pop up on my arms. Butterflies start fluttering around in my stomach. And I watch as all of these sweet families board the bus, with so much excitement and anticipation, and I have to blink away the tears!

I am very sensitive so I can relate. I cry about a lot of things in general not to mention especially when I am at the world. I don't have kids but it is still magical to me. Our last trip was this past Thanksgiving Week and seeing all of the holiday decorations for the first time made it doubly magical.
