What sort of razor should I buy?

I have started to allow my 10 year old DD to remove hair from her legs. At first the Nair was good but now it seems to be irritating her skin. At the moment I am shaving for her but I am afraid of cutting her. So I think an electric razor would be perfect but when I went to the store the number of choices and the range in prices made my head swirl. So I thought I'd ask here, anyone have any recommendations are there any tips or hints?

I honestly didn't think they made electric razors for women any more...I plan on getting my DD-and the name of it totally escapes me now-but it's a big one that is very smooth.

And this isn't meant to be harsh, but if she isn't able to shave her legs herself, I don't know if she's mature enough to be shaving them. Or having them shaved as the case may be.

I like the Schick Intuition best. I learned using that and in 7 or so years, I've only had a handful of knicks. It can get quite pricey, but my appearance (knicks, close shave, etc) is more important to me.

I'm not against getting a guys electric razor for her so if anyone has bought them for a guy with good results, that's OK too. It doesn't need to be submergable or anything, she can sit in the dry tub and use it. Trouble is we just don't use electric in my house so I don't know where to begin. I've always used razors (since I was 10) and so has DH but, the learning curve on them is pretty steep and painful so if I can avoid having her hurt herself I'm all for it. I don't mind spending money as long as the choice is safe and relatively easy.

Can't you just get her a safety razor? Like the kind they give prisoners. I doubt she could hurt herself with one of those and it would teach her what it is like to use a conventional, i.e. non-electric razor. The also make lots of razors with thin wires over the blades that help cut down enormously on mistakes.

A good option might be Veet for sensitive skin. It's basically Nair, except it comes with a "razor" - it doesn't have blades, it has strips of rubber that you use to "shave" the Veet off. Nair (even Nair for sensitive skin) irritates my legs, but I can use Veet for sensitive skin and be just fine. :thumbsup2

My 10 year old DD uses the Intuition. She has very dark, thick hair on her legs and forearms and has been shaving it for a year or so (darn those Mediterranean genes). I taught her how to shave correctly with the Intuition, and she hasn't had any accidents. The refills are a bit pricey, but for smooth legs and arms with no boo-boos for DD, it's worth it.

My cousin uses Veet for sensitive skin, and loves it! I've always wanted to try it, but haven't yet.

Yep its a wonderful razor!! Its what my girls will be using when they are old enough.. so in like 10 years :rotfl: or when ever they want to start shaving.

I also agree on the Intuition.
I never thought it would work but I got one as a free sample and love it.
I have an electric razor which doesn't get down deep, I still have stubble after shaving.
I also have a few different types of regular razors including the vibrating one and like the Intuition better.
I have used it for two weeks now, shaving every other day and I have over 3/4 of the soap left. the refills are $10.95 for 3 which would last about a month each I estimate. Really not bad for a safe shave.
And I agree, you need to teach your daughter to shave herself, it would be easier and safer for her than for you to try and get the right angles etc...

I started using a Venus razor because Blondie (here on the CB) told me about it. I have not turned back yet! I never cut myself and I am reckless with a razor!! lol

I started DD using one at about 10 and she's done great--never a cut that I can think of. I bought a pack of the disposables before our march trip to WDW (contains 3 razors) for DD, her friend and I and her friend fell in love with it.

Good luck.

DD (11) and I use Venus. she has been shaving for at least 2 years now and has used other, cheaper disposables. We both use a shaving gel from Avon, too and neither of us ever have any nicks. I think the shaving gel has a lot of do with the lack of cuts too. I showed her how the first time (but she did the actual shaving herself) and that was that. She has been shaving almost every night since then.

At 10 she should be just find shaving her own legs. DD uses a Venus razor for several years. I don't think she has ever really cut herself-a small nick maybe.

I have on my list 1 Veet sensitive, 1 Venus Embrace, and one Schick Intuition. One of these has to be good for her. Thanks for the suggestions everyone:goodvibes

Another vote for Venus. I love it and it's what both my girls use too.
