What size bed does your child have?

My dd (4) and ds (2) both have twin beds. When they become teenagers we'll upgrade them to doubles.

I slept on a twin until I moved in with my dh. Then we went to a double. We now have a king. I'm 5'8" and he's 6'0" and we've actually slept together in a twin bed, though I did accidently kicked him out of it once.

DS(3) has a queen. We upgraded to a king this summer and gave him our bed. I would prefer him to have a double because I have had a hard time getting him kid bedding and it would give him more space in his room but DH is against it. He feels he has a large playroom and doesn't want him playing in his bedroom. :confused3 We acctually have a double in our guest room but the bed doesn't go with his furnature (and visa versa)

DS is comfortable in the queen. He usually sleeps horizontally using a body pillow for his head.

DS10 went from the crib to a twin and that is what he currently sleeps in now. The set we bought him was kind of pricey, because I thought it would last him for some time. WRONG! Totally should have gone with the full from the beginning, because that's what we're looking for now. The full sized sets of the same quality as the twin (purchased 8 years ago, mind you)are way more than I was wanting to pay, but the kid is a wild sleeper and is winding up on the floor more often than not, so full sized it is.

If you can spring it and have the space, the larger bed is definitely the way to go.

I slept in a twin until I got married, and my older 2 kids both have twin beds. They will probably have those until they move out. We have fairly small bedrooms and I don't think a bigger bed would really fit. My youngest will get a twin when he moves out of his crib for the same reason. I guess it depends on if you plan to use his room as a guest room down the road and how much space you have.

DD#1- 8yrs old- double
DD#2- 6 yrsold- twin
DD#3- 2.5 yrs old- twin
we usually moved them to a twin at about 1 yr, for different reasons.

Both of my girls went from a crib to a full size bed.

A friend of mine bought a queen for her daughter thinking it would be better for guests. Now she regrets it because she can't find any character bedding in that size.

My older son went from a crib to a twin. We got him a race car bed with no box spring so the sides of it prevented him from rolling out.

We had already purchased a queen bed for our "guest room" when I found out I was pregnant with DS#2. His room was big enough to have the crib in there, too. So when he moved out of the crib he went to a "Cars" toddler bed, now he sleeps in teh queen bed, and he's only 3! But DS#1 sleeps in there with him half teh time so it works out. We just put a pillow next to DS#2 so he doesn't roll out. When he sleeps in there by himself he has 2 pillows next to him. It works great for us because we can always move his toddler bed into another bedroom when we have guests. We keep telling DS#1 that he can have the bigger bed, but he won't give up the race car bed!

full-size

no character bedding. bright, pretty colors for us with stuffed characters on top. :)

I had to make , this decision this summer. We ended up going with a twin. Why? More room in her bedroom to play and have toys out. I figure by the time this new mattress wears out, she'll be old enough for a double or queen and won't need all that room. I thought about the sleepover aspect and them sharing a bigger bed but honestly, most kids camp out in the tv room for sleep overs. The twin idea was cheaper as far as the mattress and bedding sets too.

My six year old has a twin. I had a twin until I grew up and moved out, and it worked out fine...not that it isn't great to have a bigger bed if you have the room for it!

For those saying that twins are too small for high schoolers, you do know that's pretty much all they have in college dorms, right? I've done 8 million camps on college campuses literally all over the US and I've never seen anything other than a twin bed in a dorm. Now, I'm sure someone will post about how they had king size beds in their dorm room...but that's certainly an unusual exception.

My son has always been big for his age, so when he was 1.5 years he went from his crib to a twin size bed. My daughter has always been small for her age, so when she turned 1.5 years she went from her crib to a toddler bed. Now I am wishing we would have bought a twin size bed for my daughter since he gets up a couple times a night and comes into our room. We never had this problem with our son.

My 4.5 year old is in a twin bed. She's been in it since she was a few months shy of 3 years old (got it in February, turned 3 in May). She does fantastic, and we no longer have one of those side rails on it. Her crib would have converted to a full size bed, but her bedroom isn't very large and she has TONS of toys, so there would have been no room. Now, I can't imagine her in a full size bed. She still looks tiny in the twin! I slept on a twin size bed until the night before my wedding (lived with my parents), and didn't have a problem.

My youngest is still in a crib. She'll probably go into a toddler bed late next year (crib converts), and then after that we'll get her a twin. We might move the girls to the same room and get them bunk beds, and then use the other bedroom for a playroom. But that's still at least 1-2 more years away, so we haven't thought about it in too much detail.

I have to say I am blown away by the number of kids in full and QUEEN beds! Wow...

Just remember, if/when your kids go off to college, it'll be a TWIN (XL) for them!

Also, with regards to "keeping a bedroom set into adulthood". Yeah, okay. That idea is laughable to me. I slept in a twin bunkbed until I was 15. By that time, the furniture was SO trashed from me and my sister using it, it had to go when we moved. We each got a new room in our new house. We each got a TWIN bed. When i went off to college, after my first year in the dorms, I moved into an apartment, and took my OLDER sister's twin bed furniture set with me (since it was pretty trashed by then too). I slept in that twin bed until I graduated college. AND, I met my DH during my sophomore year. WE BOTH slept in my twin bed on occasion. :lovestruc We got married a year after graduation, but I spent a year living at home while he was off training, and I was STILL sleeping in my twin bed at home.

I moved to a Queen bed when I was 22, and DH and I bought our first bedroom set together. My mom offered me some of my old bedroom furniture, and I laughed at her. No thanks! Tastes change into adulthood, is all I'm saying...

Why anyone would think a 3 year old child needs a QUEEN sized bed is beyond me. Talk about spoiling...

I'd recommend getting what will FIT in your child's bedroom, without needing to move all their toys to another room to play with.

EVERY single child can very comfortably fit into a twin bed for a LONG LONG time. My 3 and 5 year old boys sleep in a twin over twin bunkbed, and they look TINY in them! And, my three year old is a "big boy", height wise.

My DH and his siblings all had twin beds. My brother and I had twin beds. We all slept in them until at least 18.

DS has a twin bed and I end up sleeping with him all the time when he isn't feeling well.

I can't imaging a child having a full or queen bed.

That being said, DH tosses and turns constantly. One of our planned purchases for next year is a King for our room. Our queen will get passed on to a relative for their guestroom (I only have a full in mine - no space for a larger bed).

When we had only one dd, we started with a crib..then dd #2 came along, she got the crib and older dd got a toddler bed in their shared bedroom. Then we moved, they shared a larger bedroom and had twin beds (hand me downs)...Then we moved again, smaller room for the dds, and got a futon bunk bed (Brand new!! double bottom, single on top which was fine because younger dd was kinda small for her age)...then we finished the basement, added a bedroom and each dd now has her own room, and each got a double bed(brand new)...plus, both bedrooms are big enough to handle a bed that size, and they have friends sleep over and are ok with that size bed.
My son went from the crib to the toddler bed to a captain's bed (hand me down) to a twin (also hand me down)....but his room is fairly small..
Wow! I'm exhausted writing this...:rotfl:

I am 24 and had a full size bed when i lived with my mom that I shared with my dog who is now over the rainebow bridge i loved all the room but when i moved out in to my group home there was no room so i went back to a twin which is fine i really dont need any more room
