What significant world moments do you remember clearly?

Quite a few of the ones that have already been mentioned plus

When Magic Johnson reveled his HIV status

I remember a lot of what has already been posted. Here are some others:

- The first steps on the moon (I still have the newspaper with that full picture).
- The Beatles on Ed Sullivan
- The Chicago riots
- 1976 - The bicentennial year
- Elvis's death
- Lucille Ball's death
- Who Shot JR (this was a significant world moment, right?;) )

in no particular order:

death of Elvis
Princess Diana's wedding
the crazy OJ Simpson police chase
Princess Diana's death
Oklahoma City bombing
9/11
the two space shuttle disasters
Hurricane Katrina

I clearly remember:

Air Raid Drills
Cuban Missle Crisis
JFK's assassination & funeral (we went to see the funeral train)
RFK's assassination
MLK's assassination
Vietnam War
Kent State
Neil Armstrong stepping onto the moon
Watergate
Gas Rationing (73 & 79)
Resignation of Richard Nixon
Jimmy Carter telling the nation how he asked daughter Amy for advice running the country during his TV debate with Ronald Reagan

Fall of the Berlin Wall
Diana's Wedding, Death, & Funeral
John Lennon's murder
Walt Disney's death
USS Cole
Operation Desert Shield
Attempted assassination of Pope John Paul II
9/11

OK, I have to stop. this exercise is very depressing. Most of the events have lots of negative energy and listing what I can clearly remember is reminding me that I am a whole lot older than I feel.

Apollo XI (I watched it on TV)
Skylab
Pricess Ann's wedding
Watergate
Courtship of Princess Di
Energy Crisis of the 70's
Gas prices soaring to $.50/gal

I remember all of that too. We are really, really old.

I am so old that the year I was born, this country consisted of only 48 states. Hawaii and Alaska were added in 1959, the year after my birth.

I'll try to keep mine to happy events:

- Moon landing by Neil Armstrong
- USA turning 200
- Since I'm only doing happy events, won't mention Cubs collapse in '69
- Miracle on Ice in 1980
- Chicago Bears 1985 season (stationed in DC, and watched every game I could with my 4 to 7 month old daughter chewing on the remote for me, sitting right behind me. Her 2nd and 3rd words were "Go Bears" - would have been 1st and 2nd if I didn't have to work)
- Tearing down of Berlin Wall
- Michael Jordan and the Bulls winning 6 championships

and most of others already mentioned

TY!

If I add the sports stuff,

Phillies winning the World Series (1980), and while they didn't win it all in 1993, it was fun to watch those guys play:cheer2:

All of those, plus the opening of DL, (heck, even Davy Crockett on Disney), the Sputnick, and a host of others. Not sure what my first historical reference would be. I recall something about a plane crashing into a skyscraper in NYC, not sure if it was the Empire State building, (no, I"m not being funny. This was in the 50s) Clearly remember Our Lady of the Angels fire in Chicago in late 50s.

Air Raid Drills and getting under the desk...good thing it isn't now ;)
Cuban Missle Crisis
JFK's assassination & funeral (we went to see the funeral train)
RFK's assassination

Watergate
Resignation of Richard Nixon
Challenger Explosion
Pan Am 103 crashing in Lockerbie, Scotland
San Francisco Earthquake during the World Series
Fall of the Berlin Wall
Diana's Death, & Funeral
John Lennon's murder and the vigil in Strawberry Field
The Tsanami
Katrina
January 16, 1991..the war has begun
March 2003 Shock and awe again

Same as PO and then some...

Thanks for the link, I didn't know about it. But, I can go one better. I have a personnaly autographed Davy Crockett at the Alamo Playset by Marx. He was in Chicago about 10 years ago at an event and I still had (have) the set. I took it downtown for him to sign. Nice guy. Actually, just last month someone gave me a picture of me with him from that event.

You go right ahead and brag. It's not nearly often enough these days when anyone can make me feel young! ;)

How about the original MMC, with Annette, and Jimmy, and all the gang?

That was pretty significant.
