What should we expect this trip?

A few years ago, we went spent a week split between San Diego and Disneyland in early June. We had a wonderful time! We enjoyed Disneyland very much and felt that the crowds were quite small compared to our trips to WDW. We also enjoyed the San Diego area. We do know first hand what June Gloom is though!!!!

This summer we will be going the last full week in July. We will be staying 8 nights in a 2 bedroom at VGC. We will probably get a 3 day parkhopper and then head to a few beaches, Hollywood, etc on the other days.

What can you tell be about this area in late July (weather, crowds, etc) compared to early June. Are there any special events going on then that we shouldn't miss? (it will be me, DH and our 2 college aged sons)
