Here is my delima... We booked our vacation about 2 months ago and after trrying for over 3 1/2 years we found out we are pregnant with multiples (3). I was also very recently diagnoised with a degenerative muscle disease. Because I will only be about 3 mos along I don't know how much I will be showing, but wanted to know what the best way for me to get around is considering I will not be riding any rides? What is a EVG? I know I most likely got that wrong.

We are going with a 5 year old as well, is there anything easy for my husband for the both of us? Any help would be appreicated.

Thank you

Get a scooter (ECV) You have to conserve your strength. And don't worry about what anyone says. You need it.

Welcome to the disABILITIES Board and congratulations to you.
They are called ECVs. Here's a picture of an ECV from the Care Medical site.

You can rent a wheelchair or ecv from the parks, but evcs are sometimes in short supply. You can also rent an ecv from one of these outside medical supply vendors:
Care Medical:

Walker Mobility:

RANDY'S Mobility is in Kissimmee 407-892-4777

Some of the advantages of an ecv would be that:
-no one will have to push you
-your DH can push a stroller if needed
-the seat is more comfortable
-you would have more independence

Here is a link to the DIS page of mobility information.
An ecv is more expensive to rent, but you may find that the advantages outweigh the cost for you.
I'm sure your doctor will have advice for your trip, but you can also do a SEARCH and find some threads about touring during pregnancy. The usual hints are rest, stay out of the sun and heat, and keep well hydrated. Also, keep in mind that if you need a break, you can go to First Aid in any of the parks and lie down on a cot.

You didn't say anything about where you are staying or your transportation. Any of the companies that SueM listed will deliver the ECV (which is the abbreviation for Electric Convenience Vehicle, often called a scooter) to your hotel.

I have always used Walker. Randy's is less expensive, but they require you be present when the ECV is delivered and sign a waiver of laibility. I think they also require you be present when they pick it up. OTOH, Walker's (and I think the others) will drop it off at your hotel Bell Services, whether off- or on-property, so it is there prior to your arrival and will pick it up after you depart. Daily rates are comparable to Disney's charges, but you save on a week or longer.

If you are driving, as long as you have a large intermediate or larger car you (or your husband) can quickly break the ECV down into five parts, the heaviest 39 pounds, and put it in the trunk of the car. With practice, it only takes about a minute or two to break it down and put it in the trunk, and a couple of minutes to set it back up.

If you are stating on Property, the monorails, almost all buses, and all but the smallest boats can handle an ECV. If staying off-property and will not have a car check with your hotel about accessible transportation.

Most of the lines you will be able to just about all the way through while seated. Some attractions you might have to transfer or walk, but that should not be a problem for you; the key thing is using an ECV you will not have excessive standing.

As SueM also said, your husband can handle the stroller and 5yo. You do not want to use a wheelchair.

Sherry, just stopped by to sayCONGRATULATIONS 333333333 WHOOOOPPPPEEEE
Take it slow and easy. Enjoy your trip.

Congratulations and Welcome!
I voted for the ECV. It will help conserve your strength and allow DH to push your DD in her stroller. I usually get mine from an off-site vendor so I have it for use aroung the resort and at DD.

I don't have any experience with walkers or wheelchairs, but I'm 14 weeks pregnant. Being pregnant with one child isn't a disability, but it's a major slow-down. Carrying three has to be much more of strain. I'd definitely do something other than walk if I were you. Since you have a five year old, an ECV would probably be best since your DH may end up needing to push her in a stroller occasionally. WDW is huge when you have tiny legs.

You didn't say how far you'd be into your 3rd month, but you could definitely be showing. I look more like I'm fat than actually showing, but finding clothes that fit in the morning is a challenge. You don't need to worry if you're showing or not to prove to people that you don't feel well, since it's none of their business, but you need to be comfortable. Take clothes with lots of growing room. Changes can be pretty dramatic and happen almost overnight. Make sure your clothes have extra room in the chest as well as the tummy. I was up a full cup size by 10 weeks.

I'd get real familiar with the menus before you go. Have a list with you of restaurants in each part of the parks that serve something you can usually eat when you're feeling sick to your stomach so that you can get to food as soon as you start to feel bad (preferably before). If smells are a problem, carry lemon wedges in your pocket so that you can sniff them when you come across something unpleasant.

Have fun! Carrying 3 little blessings will be a lot of work, but it will yield a huge reward. :D

I would only add that friends of ours took their parents to WDW and rented an ECV from an outside company, had it delivered to the hotel, and had use of it for the whole stay. Depending on being able to rent an ECV at the parks is spotty at best. In your case, I think having your own to use all the time would work better. Plus, there may be stuff you want to do outside the parks which will still require walking etc, so you want that ECV all the time. I vote for rent it, have it delivered to your hotel.

Have a great trip, and God bless you and your family, and especially those "babies in waiting"!

Because of health problems, I chose to rent a scooter from a local outlet (not at the parks) for the duration of my trip and it was a lifesaver. I can't imagine what I would have done without it. Tried the wheelchair at one time, but my companions got tired of pushing me after awhile and your 5 year old will be enough of a handful for your hubby without having to worry about you too.

I chose to get one from a local company so I wouldn't have to worry about the availablility of them at the parks.

I'd recommend the ECV, too. I had a high risk pg with my 2nd, and would've done the same if I'd gone to the parks. You want to ENJOY the experience and pixie dust.

Two other notes:
Friend is pg with twins-she started showing at 8 weeks!

Every time my sister plans a trip to WDW, she becomes pregnant! Maybe the thought of all that magic is what it takes!

Just wanted to say congratulations and though I have no experience with an ECV I would heartily agree with the others to get one. You need to take care of yourself, your 5 y.o. and your new babies. Take it slow and enjoy.

Hello-

May I say something here? Congratulations on expecting three little babies but want to warn you of the possiblity of not being able to go to WDW even with the help of ECV. I was three months along with my triplets and was planning to fly out to Kentucky for a family reunion when my doctor "threw" a mini-fit and told me not to go even though I wasn't showing at all--fluke of nature--and threw up everything four months straight so had to get an IV and meds to stop the vomiting but I was gonna go to that reunion--had the plane tickets and etc--but I did back down and listened to him.

Sure enough, I developed toxemia at the end of my first trimester--- that was when I was going to be at the reunion and would have required emergency care in Kentucky--soooo not to rain on your parade, would it be better for you to wait on the WDW trip until you have your triplets? Why not focus on the thrill of having triplets and the chance to take them to WDW when they're old enough?

I carried them until 32 weeks---three weeks hospital stay and I went stir crazy---until they were not able to control my heart rate and thought they were delivering 2 pounders because I lost so much weight and freaked when they pulled out 2 4 to 4.5 pounders football players and one not so petite cheerleader who tipped the scales at 5 pounds. :-)

If you need anything--do let me know and I'll be happy to help. Word of advice--morning sickness was the PITS so make sure you tell your doctor the minute you get a twinge of nausea---don't wait like I did--- and ask about the B-12 shots. They do a beaut of a job in controlling nausea and vomiting.

<picking up a glass of milk and holding it up> May you have a wonderful pregnancy and a blast in raising your triplets. I know I have! <face twitching>

Janie

I have to agree with Janie. Vacations are wonderful, but your health and the health of your babies is the most important thing. Most doctors do not want mothers with high-risk pregnancies travelling more than 100 miles from home due to the possiblity of complications. Please check with your doctor before continuing with your vacation plans.

Just stopped in to say congratulations, WELCOME...and rent an ECV...as Martha says....Its a good thing ;)
