What Should I Do?

I got called in to my part-time job tonight from 4:30 - 9. I have already bought all the Halloween candy so I need an alternate plan for Trick or Treat. I thought about setting out the bowl of candy with a "Just Take One" sign. Should I have my porch light on or off? I'm kind of disappointed - I probably won't put out our other decorations either. (We have the foam Jack-o-lanterns so they will keep until next year.) :sad1:

Are you friends with any of your neighbors? If so, ask them to hand out your candy in addition to theirs. If not, save the candy for something else.... maybe a local soup kitchen or shelter, if there's one near you?

If necessary, you could send it to me and I'll eat it (though I definitely don't need it). :goodvibes

In my experience, if you leave out a bowl of candy, it will be emptied by the first or second group of preteen kids that comes by unescorted.

We're not going to be home tonight either. We just leave the porch light off, and we've never had a problem. Used to put out a bowl of candy, but we get so few trick or treaters that we don't even bother with that anymore. I'm not sure that kiddos will be able to abide by the "just take one" sign, though. ;)

LOL - I think that Milky Way commercial is so funny, though. Since I have to leave here by 4, none of my neighbors will be home by then. We have a reputation in the neighborhood for having a lot of decorations and giving out great candy. I'm just afraid of what will happen if I don't give candy out...:scared:

*sigh* Looks like I'll keep the candy inside and hope for some late Trick or Treaters! This also gives me license to "sample" more of the candy than I planned to so I can make sure it is still fresh! ;)

I would just leave the lights off and take the candy to work.

We will be home, but my lights will be off. I haven't lived here very long and this is one of the most unfriendly places I have lived in, So I can take the hint and accept that the neighbors with kids won't want them coming to my door. Saved me a ton on candy, too.

I would go with the outside bowl idea and be done with it. I recall when, as a child, I was fortunate enough to be the first to get to the house with the 'take just one!' bowl. Alas! the 'candy' was some non-chocolate horror that I detested. As such, I just took one piece, and was very Moral towards others for quite a few years.

Unless you can take the candy into work and get rid of it that way, I'd personally set it out.

I don't care if some kid takes it all, better the calories go onto his butt than mine.

Our neighbor won't be home so we're passing out her stuff.

I would give it to a neighbor to pass out with their stuff.

we just leave the bowl on the front porch for the kids.....we are usually not home as it is my mom's birthday.....never had a problem and there is always candy left over.

You know, I like that train of thought. :thumbsup2 If I can't get hold of the neighbors, I think I will turn my porch light off but still set the bowl & a sign outside in case someone still comes to the door. I have a couple of bags of 'reserve' candy in case anyone is still Trick or Treating after I get home tonight. Thanks for helping me think this through! :worship:

leave it on the porch, who cares if some kid takes all the candy. yo will feel good about doing the right thing. this is nothing to worry about.

We leave ours out on the front porch, too. A lot of folks in our neighborhood do this, and I haven't ever heard of any abuse. My next door neighbor boys and their juvenile delinquent friend would be my only concern. We don't get that many kids anyway, so I put out some bags, and then the extra candy under those and when it's gone, it's gone.
