What should I do when I've been boo'd and don't want to be?

Count me in as another who'd never heard of this before other than on these boards. We're in WI. Of course, St. Nick also visits children (and leaves little gifts in their stockings) here on the night of Dec. 5 and being originally from the Chicago area, had never heard of that either. Different regions have different traditions I guess!

It's just meant to be fun not stressful. Your neighbors wanted to share in some fun with you. If you end it no big deal. I can't imagine people being irritated by something like this.

I taught for a year in Milwaukee and was shocked at the whole st nick thing. They even do if at school. We moved back to iowa but took the st nick tradition with us.

If you did this to someone and they didn't have the time money, or even the spirit to continue it, would you be upset? I wouldn't, and I bet 99% of us would be fine with that.

IMHO, don't worry about it. Hopefully it was given to you in the spirit of a gift, and not a "gotcha".

BTW, I grew up in New Berlin (just outside Milwaukee) and St. Nick's Day was the best. I was surprised to find out it was a local thing. That, and bubblers, don'cha know?

we boo around here and have a great time with it, but it is most often a kids thing (although a few mom's have been known to "boo-ze" one another! lol). generally about $5-$10 per bag, not huge items, a little candy/glow bracelets/fake fingers, maybe special Halloween cookie cutters, that kind of thing. Its not meant to be offensive, its meant to be fun, and definitely nothing happens if you don't want to carry it further...not mean spirited like a chain letter.

to the op, I agree with others who said just give away or throw away the stuff if you don't want it, and no worries if you don't go booing. a fake sign might help avoid next year. Just know that even though you are annoyed by it all, it was not done in malice.

:thumbsup2 Except I am in MN.

So, really, St. Nick day isn't country wide? That shocks me! They do it in the schools here still. I believe public and private.

Not only isn't it nationwide, it didn't even cross over into a bordering state! Like I said, I'm originally from the burbs of Chicago and moved to Wisconsin in 1990. I had never heard of it in Illinois. Here in WI, they used to "celebrate" it in school, but not so much anymore. I always feel bad for my kids' classmates who move here from out of state and along comes Dec. 6 and everyone is talking about what St. Nick brought and poor little johnny from some other state didn't get anything because his family didn't know about St. Nick!

LOL, this is awesome. I am going to do this next year, my friends will love it, it is right up their alley :rotfl2:. Thanks for the idea!!!

I have never heard of such a thing in Texas! At Christmas, sometimes we play Secret Santa but never for Halloween! Seems like a neat idea though.

I'm in North Texas and we've done this in our neighborhood for years
