Just decided to go to WDW this summer! HURRAY! But now my problems with planning start.

DS doesn't know yet if he will be able to come. (in college, waiting to see if he will get a great summer position).

We probably won't know till after the 60 day mark. would it be better to put him on the reservation now, make the FP+ reservations. Then if he can't come to then take him off of the FP+ reservations?

Will that goof up the ressies that we would have in place for the rest of us if he doesn't go? Meaning if we have the 4 FP+, we have to take him off the reservation, will we loose the other 3 FP+ spots?

We are in the same position, only DD got a summer internship at Disney :woohoo:, but she won't know her schedule until ?? So, I have her on the dining reservations. It is easier to remove her than to add her. To remove her (we've had to do it when we've visited before because of her school schedule) it's a simple call to disney to make the change.

Regarding FP+, not sure how that works if you want to remove only 1 of your party. When we are at our 30 day window (FL AP staying off property), I am going to put DD on with us. I will probably just leave her on rather than try to remove her and mess up what we have. In theory you should be able to remove 1 of your party, but I still don't trust FP+. It's great when it's working, but bad when it's not....just like every other technology we have. ;)

I did this in Jan, put DSinL on the reservation, got a MB for him, linked his non-expiring ticket and made FP+s for him. We were not sure if he was going to still be working when we left, or be laid off and able to come along.
The fact that he was not with us did not affect the rest of our FP+s. I told the front desk that he was not with us when we checked in, but I never went into MDEx to mess with taking him off. I don't trust that glitchy system that it wouldn't have messed things up. As long as he didn't use his ticket or MB to enter a park, no days were taken off his ticket.

I will also do the same for DS and his GF for August. I will not know if they are joining us until the last minute - if Disney is making me pre-plan, I will pre-plan for anyone that might be there with us.

You can take 1 person off FP but sometimes things r just best left alone. as for dining I find it's more of headache to try and fix vs just telling them at check in party size went down.
