I have POFQ reserved with AP rates for feb but am wondering if I should change to AKL standard. Is it worth the extra $30 a night?

The AKL resort is awesome -

The rooms are smaller though!

If the extra $30 a night is within your budget, I'd say go for it!

I've stayed at both and loved both. POFQ was just Port Olrleans when I was there, so I'm not intimately familiar with how the "merging" of Port Orleans and Dixie Landings (now PO Riverside) affected each. I can't imagine there was a significant change to the guest experience (perhaps others here know better).

At AKL, you get the animals and inside hallways. POFQ rooms open to a shared balcony/walkway like a motel. Both have bus service to most destinations, but POFQ also has boat service (or did at one time) to Downtown Disney. AKL is certainly less centrally located, but I didn't find this to be a problem during our trip.

If you decide to go with AKL, don't be concerned that you only have a standard view. There are plenty of places to see the animals. And it never hurts to ask if there are any complimentary upgrades available (in February, you might have a good chance).

Have a great time, whichever you decide!

I made the change. They had me at 4 nights at AP rate and 2 nights at value rate for total of $648 for PORFQ with tax. I changed to 6 nights at AP rate at AKL standard for total of $726! Only $78 difference for the week! I hope its worth it... but I'm sure it will be.

Only $78 more for six nights at AKL?!?! Gotta love that! :bounce:

It will definitely be worth it. If you've ever been to a moderate or value Disney resort, you'll notice the difference at the deluxe. If it's your first time, you'll be spoiled.

AKL rooms are a bit bigger than POFQ (344 vs 314 sq ft) but may seem smaller because AKL has queen-sized beds versus doubles at POFQ. (AKL and WL have smaller rooms than the other deluxes.)

Have a wonderful time. I'm jealous.
