Well, I need to start thinking about what I want to be when I grow up to chose what college is right for me.

My mom is an RN (nurse) and I would like to get into the healthcare field. My plan is to become an RN and be a male nurse for a while until I get used to the field, and then after I get settled maybe go to med school if I want to... What do you think of this plan?

Stick with the plan, Murses (male - nurses) are cool! :)

Last I heard, nurses were in high demand. Some hospitals pay nurses a bonus to come work for their hospitals. If I could handle the sight of blood, I would go into the field. Good luck in whatever you choose.

I vote stick with the plan---or---think about Physician Assistant school. It is two years of tough training. You'll earn more and have more responsibilities. A good field.

Have you ever really thought about dental school? ( you could do regular dentistry, endodontics, orthodontics...)

How about pharmacy? Physical Therapy?

I never really thought much about the other medical fields, and I now think if I had, I would have gone into dental school. So many people think of medicine as straight line doctor or nurse but it's a big field!! Maybe volunteer at your local hospital to get a feel for what you may like.

Be sure to take as many science classes (advanced, if you qualify) becasue you'll need it! Many of the CSU schools offer 4 year RN programs, but they can be difficult to get into. Volunteering at a local hospital would also look good on your college application too. (SR Regional, John Muir & Kaiser - Walnut Creek are the local hosp to check for a volunteer program.)

Good luck!

Have you thought about becoming a nurse anesthetist? It's extra training and I guess really tough, but they make REALLY good money.

I know the guy who helped me with the epidural when I had my daughter was also a BIG HERO to me, so you'd definitely be popular! ;)

I think that sounds like a great plan. Nurses are in high demand and if you like it, it would be a great way to segway into med school.

Stick with your plan.........it sounds good to me

I'm not going to vote "Nursing is for girls" but we need lots
of new doctors as well as nurses. If you can get into med
school, I'd do the doctor route. It's a couple years longer, I think,
when residency is considered. Either way, you are going into
a profession where many more people are needed. Good job!
