What services does your guide provide?

We bought at BWV through The Timeshare Store. Once our deed was recorded, we received notice from Disney indicating which guide we have been assigned to (someone we had spoken with in the past about buying directly from Disney. She was great to work with, but we really wanted BWV and she couldn't help us.).

Now I am wondering what exactly your guide does. What types of things has your guide helped you with?

Thanks for any info.

Their job is to sell - after that, I really don't expect any contact. I wouldn't even callmy guide unless I wanted to buy more points.

Best wishes -

i cant even say my guide sold me on anything. And i certainly would not endorse him to anyone else either. I think people should know about the secondary market and then make their decision to buy direct or via a resale. If you dont like your guide change it early cause with disney you get stuck with them...........

Actually, that's a relative question. Once you own a DVC contract and/or you spend time here on the DIS checking out the DVC forums, there's not much a guide can do for you other than facilitate the purchase of add-ons through DVC. However, to the vast majority who don't know about the DIS or the resales markets, your Guide can explain all the details of DVC ownership, purchase options, finance options, etc. Now before you all pile on, I acknowledge that the usefulness - and accuracy of information - that a Guide provides will differ based on the individual and his/her own interpretation/agenda (occupancy ::cough::). Still, our Guide shepherded us painlessly through the process and kept us up-to-date on our progress.

IMHO - YMMV

I have to say my guide has been very helpful over the years.Whenever I couldnt get a problem solved on my own he seemed to step in and get it done.He helped with a banking problem with MS and helped rescue what could have been a disaster of a vacation at the BWV by getting directly involved with the front desk.I know since workng with him he has gotten real involved with the cruise lines but he always has time to answer any questions for me. :cheer2:

I echo the OP remarks, my guide is great and will help with anything I get stuck with. I try to stop in at least on one of my trips each year to say a quick hello. She always touches base with me on new offers if she thinks I may be interested and under the silly system of who ever kills for older resort points first gets them, she really comes through.,

Also, when I donated a stay for a charity event, she sent me a BW picture and a box of taffy for it.

I can't say enough good things about my guide.

My guide has done diddly squat for me. She didn't even show me the units...she became my guide because she was my friends guide & I put them down as a referral so they'd get Disney Dollars.

Bought resale three years ago. Have never spoken to my guide.

If I wanted to add on through Disney, I'd give him a call.

We spoke with what I believe was a guide the other afternoon, before we made the offer on the resale that we're purchasing. Because we spoke with her about buying directly from Disney, does that mean she'll be our guide when we purchase more points from Disney after we close on the resale?

While she was incredibly nice, it really seemed as if she was trying to dissuade me from purchasing anything other than SSR....

TIA!

My guide helped me along with the paperwork but as soon as the paperwork was done, he was done. I've called him twice and both times he's tried to push us off to our old guide! I don't think (hope) I'll need him for anything else and WHEN I'm ready to add-on I'll be taking my previous experiences into consideration when choosing whether I'll go through DVC directly or TSS.

The only time we've heard from a guide after our original puchase was to inform us that we now had a "new" guide. I assume unless you are purchasing more points- you don't hear from them.

My guide has been very helpful. When I first called to inquire about DVC, I figured they'd be pressing me to buy. She never once tried to influence my decision. She just answered any questions I had. In fact she spent over 2 hours with me on the phone. About a week later I had a few questions and she spent about another hour talking to me (this was after I had already purchsed) and just the other night, I had a couple of general questions, so I called her and left her a message. I figured she went home for the day, but she called me back at 7:30 pm and we talked for about a half hour. Honestly, in my opinion, I didn't think we were supposed to hear from them, unless we called looking for something, but hey, I'm the new kid around here!

Our guide has been terrific. We have purchased 2 contracts through him and another as a resale. He knew we were buying a resale before the process was complete and never tried to talk us out of it. He calls us each time we are at Disney World and always invites us over to chat for a few minutes if we have time. This past visit in December, he took us over and showed us the grand villa at SSR. Never any pressure to buy additional points and always friendly.

My Guide is very good as well and used to always answer any questions that I had for her. But I have to admit that I have learned far more about DVC from the Dis-Boards than I ever learned from her. My fellow members are a far better and quicker source of information and I really don't rely on her for anything anymore other than to purchase points (and that's been a while).

Other than our original purchase at VWL our guide has not really done anything. Even when we did an add on of points through DVC it took me weeks of phone calls to reach him. He never returned our calls until I demanded a supervisor.

Absolutely nothing. If I didn't call her maybe once a year, I'm sure I would never hear from her.

Thanks for your quick responses!!! I didn't think there was anything I really needed our guide for, but I remembered reading posts about people visiting/chatting with their guides and I wasn't sure if I was missing something.

Thanks again!

realistically..........none

Same here-he has never once called us to say thank you and we have two different contracts we purchased thru him for a total of 300 points

Before I discovered the DIS, we used to get a yearly call from our guide, Megan, back in the early days of DVC. She would call to see how we were doing and if we had any questions - she would also call when we were down for a visit and give us a "Welcome Home" call.
We don't hear from our guide at all. Tried to catch him when the tour was at Boardwalk and didn't have any luck.
